Get In Touch With Mr. John Sorowka?

Hello everybody!

Today I picked up one of my better pens, my 1934 Parker Vacumatic Junior. What makes this pen so special, is its semi-flexible Canada nib and its ability to hold a decent amount of ink. However, I rarely pick this pen up, since my other pens do a better job at just about everything. So I have been thinking of getting my Parker Vacumatic Junior ground down to a cursive italic. This would make the pen more unique and since I don't have any italic nibs yet (yeah, I have cheap calligraphy nibs, but they don't count, do they?), I'm thinking I might as well pay a bit and make an already wonderful nib extremely good.

I have read around and many people praise the skill of the nibwizard (I was careful not to use the other word ;) ) Mr. John Sorowka. However, I haven't been able to find a website, an e-mail address or any way to contact him other than through FPN, where I know his name is 'Oxonian'. So I would really appreciate it if anybody could help me get in touch with him :)

Thank you!

I just received my MB 149 back from some nib work by John. My Montblanc 149 F Nib was performing badly. The nib performed a bit scratchy, not smooth, and while writing with the pen a considerable amount of ink flows on top of the two tines just after the tip of the nib.

This morning the pen was delivered back to me by John and WOW ! What a difference ! Smooth, no scratching or skipping and no more ink creeps.

John is a true nibmeister !!

I understand you should not use the n-word when communicating with him.

I am a happy customer as well.

I got my 146 back yesterday, and it has been nothing short of phenomenal. John is a true artist, and while his turn around time is a little long, his prices are very fair, and his communication is always prompt and informative.

I was on the verge of selling my 146 (that's how unpleasant the stock nib was!). Johns work has made it my number 1 go-to writer. If you want to love your pen, but the nib won't let you, send it John's way, and he'll make it everything it should be, plus more. (He even worked on the top of the nib, so I have a 'second' nib).

I couldn't sing his praises enough

I already sent the pen his way before coming to me, reading this kind of comments are very pleasing although I have never doubted how skilled mr. Sorowka is.

On the other hand, the wait is becoming progressively harder as each day goes by, despite the fact that he most likely hasn't even received the pen yet!

One thing is for sure; the wait will be worth it.

Huge amount of admiration for Johns abilities and the way that a nib can be transformed to produce a pen that is a pleasure to use, he has fixed several pens for me and I recommend him to everyone.

... you should not use the n-word

It depends which n-word: nibwright or nibsmith might not raise the ire.

Whatever the word might be, he does a very fine job indeed. I had a scratching, skipping, running dry Waterman and John turned it into a magnificent writer. Highly recommended!

Yes, I'll pm it to you. However, mr. Sorowka has not replied to my e-mails for about a week and a half. I'm worried about him because he's an amazing person and is usually quick to answer. The fact that he hasn't replied for a week is worrying.

I don't know if he was at them but there have been pen shows the last couple of weekends..

Hello.

Yes that might very well be the case. Looking through a previous e-mail he actually told me that he 'has a lot of work at hand and several business meetings over the next month or so'.

Thank you for pointing this out!

Don't worry about Sorowka's seeming to have left the planet. It's normal. He will get back to you.

He was always personable, polite, and funny when he emailed me. But I had to wait for a reply sometimes, and I occasionally thought he'd died.

Two pens, both sorted.

Hello

I also have two Montblancs, a 149 and a Classique, that need to be looked at)

Can I have John's contact too, please?

I am really growing desperate with those two cos they are nice pens but there's a couple of flaws that stand between them and my infinite love)))

Big thanks in advance!

I heard that he prefers to be addressed as NibLord Sorowka, or "your magNIBfecence"

I didn't know this Mark Twain quote, thanks.

Also, I'm amazed no one came back with "I have a Homo Sapiens with a Dolce Vita."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
