Hello all,

Just thought I'd finally create an account over here on FPN since you can never have too many sources for fountain pen info!

I'm local to Anderson Pens, so I do the majority of my shopping there. I have always loved pens, I recall begging my parents for Parker and Cross pens when I was in middle school! I was introduced to fountain pens last year and I have a pretty sizable collection already. My "precious" is my Vanishing Point...

Here are my pens in order that I purchased, top to bottom.

I'm a late thirty-something, dink. My other hobbies consist of a vast list: sailing, horseback riding, vw's, harley's, hockey, disc golf, snowshoeing/hiking, camping, wine, beer, food, computers, video games, flying, etc... I'd say that horses and harley's are my main hobbies at the moment.

My latest purchase was a Lamy Studio for my wife, and I got myself a Pilot Metropolitan. My daily carry is my Vanishing Point that I bought used off Ebay. I was so worried it would be a steel nib, but it's 18k and so buttery smooth!

My soul's verses to bestow.

I would take a picture of my ink collection, but it's spread between work, home, and my wife's work... the vast majority are Noodler's, but I have some Waterman, Diamine, Sailor, and Akkerman too. As I look at that picture, I'm noticing that my Sailor green is not in any of my pens, I will have to rectify that... I see two with black in them.

Welcome, and congrats living so close to a real live quality pen store!

Looks like you're on your way toward beginning to get near the edge of the slippery slope of collecting. But don't worry, we'll nudge you closer and then give you a nice stiff shove at the edge.

Welcome! B)

Welcome! It's nice you're close to a pen store, we have a Paradise Pen here in Portland, but it's downtown and given the parking situation it's unlikely I'll get there anytime soon. Love your pen selection, I have a Pilot too, and I've been lusting for a VP for years. I've been thinking of getting a TWSBI, but haven't decided which one yet. The purple is nice but I'm hoping for blue some day soon.

Welcome from Alabama! I am a fair bit jealous of your ability to walk in and check out some good pens before buying! I like the walkthrough on Anderson Pens' website. Someday I'll make a pilgrimage up ther.

I took a huge risk and impulse bought my VP off eBay, it was used and I got in a bidding war, I had instant remorse, but when it arrived, I was so very happy with my purchase!

I was in a big Twsbi phase for a good portion of last year... Love my vac700 and my 580 with a 1.1. I don't use my mini much anymore. I almost bought my wife the 580 al in purple, but after writing with a lamy studio, I picked that in dark blue for her along with that lovely teal green ink that I demoed in my metro, it's Akkerman Denneweg Groen.

And having Anderson pens near by is amazing! but it is very dangerous!

I've heard the same thing about the Fountain Pen Hospital in New York! I've been thinking about a Lamy too, I'm going to have to wait a bit before I make anymore purchases, I've been severely tempted by the notebook/al star combo for sale at Goulet Pens for $39.99 though! I have to agree with you about that teal color it is lovely!

Welcome to the club! You are so lucky to be near Anderson Pens--and dangerous! I get most of my ink supplies from Goulet Pens online, so check them out if Anderson doesn't have what you need. And glad to hear you have a Vanishing Point--I have a limited edition VP in purple and I use it all the time--smooth and reliable, right?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
