You could buy a complete 2002 Parker 51 and an original DJ Parker 51 with an original cap for less than this Frankenpen pen is going to sell for.

They probably ended up with a broken body on their 2002 LE and are trying to salvage something out of it. The cap was the real cost in the LE anyway. It does look pretty sweet together though!

Pretty sweet yes but would you pay anywhere near $1000 for it?

Interesting. I had read about Empire caps, but I don't think I'd ever actually seen one before.

And to answer bayport714, dunno about some people but I wouldn't pay anywhere near that amount. Not even for a 51, not even for that cap.... But obviously there's someone out there who would.

YMMV

I wouldn't pay that much if I had the money. But I'm not an expert on the Parker 51, and especially not on the pen caps. I'm not aware of its rarity.

I really hate the principle of "it's only worth what people will pay." There's always an uninformed neophyte who throws the curve.

The original Empire caps were solid 14K gold. I suspect at least some of the bidders have't read the description carefully enough and think they're bidding on a genuine original Empire cap. Even so, I think that price is over the odds even if it was an original cap.

I will by the original Empire caps for 1000 each almost every time they are offered to me.

The seller gets credit for full disclosure. There are obviously two buyers that have credit.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
