Summer Inks!

Ambrose Bierce

Recommended Posts

So the weather is starting to get consistently 90< here in Alabama. This has got me thinking what ink would be the best summer ink of them all! I think Ama-Iro, or Waterman South Sea's Blue would be a good bet. What do you think about a summer ink (lol I made a rhyme).

One unseasonably cold winter I read only books set in California or Florida to remove winter from my "mind" if NOT my bones. I might be thinking along the lines of the Noodler's Polar inks for a "summer in Alabama!" If it is 90 degrees during the first week of May what can you expect in August?

I think I would surely save the "oranges & reds" till Winter & "break out the blues."

For summer I like the fresh, even yellow, greens that mimic new growth bursting out all over Texas. This year I'm using Iroshizuku chiku-rin

Yeah.. the high of the week is 95 degrees... I like the idea of the polar inks. It is kinda ironic and funny.

I just inked a pen up with J. Herbin Orange Indien, because it catches the sunlight streaming in so well and matches all the california poppies growing everywhere. Ooh, that reminds me that I still need to take a photo with the two together...

My pens: Penny the Penmanship, Dot the Metropolitan, Pallas the Parallel, Neoma the High Ace Neo, Petra the Petit1, Calliope the Kakuno (Also, a Sheaffer No-Nonsense)

My bottles of ink: Sailor Epinard & Ultramarine; Mysterious Blue (Wishlist: Oku Yama)

Well, since I'm in the desert, I've been thinking about the cool water and FISH.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

R&K Old Green-Gold. Reminds me of new growth. deAtrementis Sky Blue (nice and cool looking). Waterman Black...no kidding, it reminds me of dappled shade.

What, only one?

For summer, I like popsicle colors: aquamarine, creamsicle, chartreuse. (The color AND the liquer.) Anything cheerful and bright.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Hmmm ... Think I would get some Indian ink, say Camlin, perhaps. And an Indian eyedropper or two. India uses many eyedroppers and their inks are formulated for hot climes.

Enjoy,

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

For maximum effect, demo pens go into rotation so the pretty inks show their colors even at rest. Turquoise, orange, violet and pink comprise my summer selection though the brands shift over the season. Temps are in the 60's, so summer inks will have to wait a few more weeks.

I never thought about it before, but I seem to naturally gravitate toward the more turquoise end of the spectrum during the summers, and more orange-copper-gold yama-budo-ish during the fall. Right now I think I'm in the light blue leading up to summer colors.

Ha. Never thought about it before..

Gotta have Lamy Turquoise and Noodler's Summer Tanager.

I'm trying to find the perfect purple, but none of my stockpile of Goulet Ink Drop samples have hit the right note. I guess I'll have to force myself to just keep trying...<sigh>

I love Lamy Turquoise, especially on Tomoe River paper. Have you noticed the shading you get? It's gorgeous. You might try Lamy Violet if you have not yet. I also like it quite a lot.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
