Is it possible to remove and replace the brass threads and spring/plunger mechanism from vintage Jotters?

Because I'm thinking about buying a 1st year Jotter from someone but apparently the cap spring is either missing or is broken because the plunger stays down when the cap is unscrewed from the barrel. I'm not going to buy it if I can't repair it.
