Pretty Little Pen

I found this little pen in a charity shop on Monday. It was the colour that attracted me as I thought it would go with one of my pinky purple inks and because it was so tiny. I just had a look at it this afternoon and I see it's a Conway Stewart 570, circa the 60s?

I filled it and after a scratchy start the dear little thing now has ink pumping through its veins again. Well worth the £1.95 I paid - I think. post-116222-0-89147700-1430850961.jpg

I'm not a pink fan, but I like it! Good rescue!

That is very pretty indeed. According to Jonahan Donahaye, they were made from a translucent material called Lumina, and the parts were sourced from Germany ("Holder Foreign"). I have a couple of late-production Conways and although their quality is not up to their earlier standards, they are both good writers. Historically the pen is interesting as it represents the last efforts of this once great company.

As far as value goes, how many new pens with 14ct gold nibs could you get for two quid? Well done!

Yes, (I LOVE cats by the way).

You were fortunate to find a fountain pen in a charity shop although it was finding a Jackdaw for a fiver that started me on the famous slippery slope!

Best of luck,

Cob

I'm not sure I would actually kill for your lovely pen, but I'd think about it! Congratulations on a terrific find at any price!

Five cats....oh, do tell more: just the two, Spock and Data. They keep me going through what is a very dark time. So does joining in here.

What ink did you "fillerup" with? I was just using Diamine deep Magenta, for a friend, and it looked to be a nice match for your sweet wee pen(my one is a Parker Lady - Im more a fan of chunky heavy pens, so it was quite different, but nice for a change)....

Always interested in people's ink preferences :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
