Yes Bill, that's what we have been writing about here. For some reason the ad comes up on mobile devices (Ipad/Iphone and Android.. don't know about Windows RT or Windows mobilePhone...) even for members.

Wim is working together with the software developers of our board-software for a work-around.

Seems to have to do with Google dictating everything should be "white", and Apple that it should be "black", so now it's finding the right shade of grey to make both happy... must be the 60st shade...

Hello D.ick

I was actually providing additional input for Wim ....the post right above mine from Kath77 indicated that things were improving:

"Ads have disappeared from some pages (view new content) but not from others, like this thread. Good start!"

I wanted Wim to know that I am not seeing that improvement on my devices....

Trying to provide input that will assist in the diagnosis and resolution...

That's good, but your wording made me uncertain if you were aware of the ongoing research.

Better explain where not needed than leave someone bungling

I just logged onto a 'real' computer, using IE...no ads.

Back on my ipad...ads. (By which I mean the non-pen related banner ads on top of the page.)

But oddly enough, on the PC, I saw no ads even before I logged in.

That is what I tried to say earlier: It is related to the changes for the iPhone user agent so that people could log in again. This unfortunately affects all mobile users.

Sailor, check if you have no ad-blockers running in the browser....

I believe there are. It's not my PC, so will have to check...yes. There is an ad-blocker. So does that invalidate my 'test?'

To a degree :). Since things are working correctly for PCs, we are really only looking into mobiles right now.

Just answered a short question from the developer, so he is working on it.

Warm regards, Wim

Now some of the ads are starting to look like spam...the flashing kind that says, 'You have one message waiting for you,' and if you click on it, even to close it, your device trashes itself.

Eek.

Those should have been disabled now.

My conference call was delayed until Thursday, now, but at least they react quickly. The moment I noticed these ads (I deliberately display them for myself, to see what we're running into), I immediately sent them an email, and got a confirmation well within an hour that they were disabled. They also mentioned it could take up to a few hours before they disappeared.

Warm regards, Wim

Hi Bill,

Yes, they will stay there I am afraid until we receive an update from the advertising add-on developer. He is currently working on a solution. This was broken by the fix for iPhone users being able to log in, and this fix was a general fix for the board software itself.

I haven't received an update since Monday yet. However, I keep looking myself as well.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

Just for clarification:

There are at the moment two issues:

1: When logging in from a mobile device members get to see non-pen related advertisements. This should not happen, but has to do with our board software. Wim is working together with the software developpers. This may take some time to remedy.

2: Some of the advertisements being shown do all kinds of bothersome things on your mobile device, like send you to the app-store or things like that.

This is because some advertisements are made that way. Wim is in discussion with the advertisement agency and they promised this should stop very soon.

This should be a thing of the past real soon.

Update: ads had disappeared from some pages but not from threads I actually select. Now they are back on all pages.

Just for more info, I'm still seeing ads for diapers and other stuff after being signed in on my iPad.

I'll check with the developer of the add-on today what the status is, I was planning to do so anyway, as he works on this stuff in his spare time.

Unfortunately we cannot disable the entire add-on, as we rely heavily on other functionality it provides.

Warm regards, Wim

Although I dislike having to see non-pen ads when signed in, at least it's better than that vomiting Hieronymous Bosch sidebar we once had. ;)
