Noodler's Dromgoole's Alamo's Twilight

I haven't been posting a review here in a while, so as you can imagine, I'm getting a bit behind on them. Thankfully, during that time, I devised a neat little system to keep me organized when writing, filing, organizing, and posting reviews. Now, everything is a bit more streamlined and I know exactly which ones I need to post and which ones I don't.

This is a Dromgoole's Pen Shop exclusive ink, made by Noodler's Ink Co. Amber sent me a sample of this to play with and it is my very first brown in that I didn't mix myself. If you would like this ink, Dromgoole's Pen Shop has a store in Houston, Texas, next to Rice University (in Rice Village). They also will be willing to ship the ink to you if you order on the phone.

This review will follow my normal standard format for reviews, with pictures following a small blurb. The pictures were taken with an iPhone 6, back camera, in artificial lighting. Effort has been made to show the true color, but your milage may vary depending on your monitor. If you would like to see all my ink images, you are free to go to http://inkyreviews.tk/

Here is a preview of the ink. The ink is a brown ink with good shading.

The review was written with my favorite, the Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator, in a TWSBI B nib. The TWSBI B is slightly finer than the Nemosine B, but not by much. It's only a hairline difference.

The review was written on HP 32lb Premium Laser Paper, which can be found at Staples for the whooping price of $19.99, or on Amazon for $15.39. This is my new "standard" paper I will be using for all my reviews, writing, and comparisons. I still have a bit of HP 28lb, which is now discontinued, but I am going to be moving to this one now, as it is much better, IMO.

Here is the swab of the ink. It was pulled from my latest project, a crowd-sourced ink swab database found here http://inkymadness.tk/. This is my own swab that I am using here, but many other people's swabs of lots of inks can be found there! You are free to contribute your swabs as well by emailing them to me at admin@inkymadness.tk.

The ink is a brown ink with some good shading. The ink is quite wet coming from this nib, and has a high amount of lubrication. There is some shading, from a medium to a dark hue. There is no spread, feathering, show through, bleed through, or wet smear. The ink is highly saturated, but has posed no problems so far.

The ink takes the same amount of time as other inks at roughly 15 seconds.

Here is a poorly drawn ghost to show how the ink looks with sketching, and coloring.

I left the comparison section blank on the review form, but I will be showing swabs of similar inks here. This is a my new format that I am trying out for the comparisons. Tell me what you think. The swabs used here are from my latest project, a crowd-sourced ink swab database found here [http://inkymadness.tk/]. This is my own swab that I am using here, but many other people's swabs of lots of inks can be found there! Left to right. The images were stretched to fit in one row. Color was not altered.

3. Noodler's Kiowa Pecan

Here is a water test. The top grid had drops of water placed for 10 seconds, then vigorously wiped downwards. The bottom text did not receive any drops of water and was only wiped with in the same motion as the grid. The ink performed OK on this test. There is a bit of lifting on the grid, turning the color more red. There is also some wet smear, but not enough to render the text unreadable.

Lastly, here is a scan of the review. Use the scan to read the rest of the review. I did not intend for it to show color accuracy. The pictures are the most accurate representation of the color.

That's all folks! I would give this ink a 8.5/10. If you liked this review, stay tuned for more to come!

A decent looking brown, with water resistance...one to add to the collection, for sure.

C.

I "think" that is what the pipette said. I hope Amber gets here soon and checks for me.

Thanks for posting the review! I like your review format.

i was surprised to see this 'twilight' ink as a 'brown' color. i was expecting more of a 'blue-black' color tone. but it certainly is a nice brown ink.

Texas Pecan is probably more like it. But if Amberlea got her vials mix up, it could be anything, and I mean any thing!

Well at this point, I'm not too sure exactly what happened. Still waiting on Amber to spot check this for me.

Well I like it! It's better than the old color, to me at least.

The Alamo, at twilight, looks a little different every day, I guess.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
