I'm Starting A New Project And Need Some Advice

I am fixing to undertake a massive series of projects. I will be copying various non-copyright works in their entirety. I have a speedball oblique holder and nikko g nibs on the way, but no paper, ink, or other accessories for this project. I want to keep what I write for at least my life time so that is my main focus for this post. I want ink (I'm a fan of kon peki for my pens and would like to use a similar color ink though I'll trade the shading aspect I love in kon peki for longevity) and paper (rhodia uni blank white is my favorite for notes) preferably loose leaf for this. My final question is if anyone knows of a drawing board that is clear so I can place a light below and use tape (opposite of the paper side) to create lines to be sure my writing is straight as doing it with a pencil would double this decade long project.

Well, Art is Art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water. And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now you tell me what you know.-Groucho Marx

Why not look into getting a light box? I've seen them at all sorts of price points (and as cheap as about $50 with just a tiny bit of online searching). They tend to have a slope. I have a cheap one that I got about a decade or so ago, that has a way to prop it up at an angle.

A cheaper alternative would be to prop a piece of plexiglass up with something like a piece of wood; if you go the plexiglass route, you probably want to tape the edges with masking tape, and you probably want a fairly thick piece (I would say maybe 1/4-3/8" or more).

That way, you can tape your paper to the surface if needed.

Definitely get a light box. Check Amazon. There are some reasonably inexpensive.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
