Esterbrook Limited Edition Lincoln Pen

Took a spin around the intertubes this morning and noted that the new "Esterbrook Co." Is bringing out a Limited Edition Abraham Lincoln Pen to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the President's Assassination...continuing to carry on the Esterbrook tradition of "affordable pens for Everyman".

Do my eyes deceive me or is that a leather overlay on the cap?

Apparently due out in May 2015.

Richard Esterbrook must be spinning in his grave.

I was glad to see someone asked the question I was going to- that in fact the image was not in fact, "A close up look at the Esterbrook Lincoln Limited Edition Fountain Pen cap," but rather a photoshop mockup.

Since the head of the new so called Esterbrook co has been challenged with honesty in the past, it is good to see that the 'truth squad' is still out there.

There are several of us who would not get a response, or at least not a useful or civilized one.

The perspective in the photo looks wrong, particularly the dates.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I was going to make a joke about how it was part of a larger "American Tragedies" series, and list a few pens that would be offered by the new "Esterbrook" company, but it seemed to be in poor taste.

(The joke, that is. The company is a given.)

Thats a weird event to celebrate...the first ever assassination of a US president.

Definitely not a celebration, an untimely death, like Winston Churchill he was a man for his time.

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,
The Pickwick, the Owl and the Waverley pen

I can see I would not want anything like that. I collect postage stamps, and plenty of countries crank out such commemorative issues. Republik of Megalomania commemorating George Washington crossing the delaware . . .Republica Banana commemorating the Golden Gate Bridge . . .

How about an Esterbrook commemorating Tricky Dicky leaving the White House? Or maybe a Clinton/Lewinsky pen and pencil set?

A blue dress commemorative issue? Gift one to the Speaker of the House.

That would probably suck. Ok, ok, someone had to say it.

I would think one would celebrate his accomplishments, maybe on the anniversary of the day he was elected to the office of president.

Maybe there will be a John Wilkes Booth Commemorative?

Anyone want to chip in and I'll do another review. lol :)

You bad!

Well, if we're going to celebrate disasters, why not a Hindenburg or a Titanic Esterbrook?

Well, maybe Esterbrook could do a cigar pen. B)

You guys are way too funny for a Sunday morning.

It's most likely cost prohibitive but in a perfect world, a true lover of the Esterbrook Company like FPN's own Brian Anderson, would have revitalized the brand and developed a pen with multiple and affordable nib choices.

Buttttttt...that would be in a perfect world...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
