If You Could Only Have 3 Chinese Pens....

What would your 3 be?

Richard

Choosing an amber k316, a grey k316, and a white k316 isn't allowed. Lol

My thinking is that I would choose 3 very different pens to give me a bit of variation in design as well as "writing experience".

And,

no "swapped nibs" allowed either.

Just the pens as they come.

Mine would be.........drum roll!

Jinhao 217

Picasso Swedish flower king, in dark blue.

And

A Kaigelu 316 in white.

No real revelations there, but I look forward to seeing the variation in other peoples' choices.

Cheers

Ian

Mine would be a Jinhao X450, a X750 and a 159.

If it were allowed, i'd pick simply three 159s ;-)

:gaah: Foiled. That was my answer when I saw the thread title. ;)

I think to provide a bit of variety it would have to be a Charcoal K316, a Stainless K356 (Sonnet lookalike) and the Jinhao 5000. The latter because it looks gorgeous, has a nice feel and is very different from the other two.

Don't think I like the white K316 enough to have it as my choice anyway. The material is just too transparent for me.

Regards,

Richard

I like the white one Richard, It is completely different from anything else I have, and is a bit of a stunner.

To be honest, I've never really noticed the transparency thing, but now that you've mentioned it..........Hmmm! I think I better get me a charcoal one.

I think I would go..

Hero 7022

Hero 382

Jinhao X750

In that order.

I'm still very impressed by the 7022 and surprised I don't see it mentioned more on here.

Ian - go grab yourself one mate... ;)

If I could only have THREE Chinese fountain pens, then it would be a world gone horribly wrong.

So I have to tell myself, 'This is only make-believe.' Even so, my brain cries out, Noooo! This can't be!

But...they would be Heros. The 616, the 330, and the 359.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Hahaha

I changed my mind about 5 times when choosing mine, I love them all.

I think it's the variety I love... and every one's a winner.

What did you have to go and say that for???

For the 1st time in 6 months, I was doing well and wasn't waiting for a pen in the mail.....until 5 minutes ago, when I ordered a blue marbly 7022.

So much for restraining myself.

Who am I trying to kid...lol

That's probably the reason why I started the thread in the first place, to see what others raved about, then go 'n get 'em.

I'll need to beat the lovely Laura to the post though, as she was quite sarcastic when the last pen arrived.

"Another pen?..Is that just to go with the 12 you already have?". she said, with eyebrows raised.

12???, Gulp,

It's just as well she's never looked in the drawers of my desk.

You guys have seriously caused me some problems with deciding my next pen purchase... If you don't mind helping me out I started a new topic (as I don't want to hijack this thread) here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/289543-help-me-pick-one-last-pen/

Thanks. :)

You'd probably be better just hi-jacking this thread if you've set your mind on a Chinese pen

The Chinese pen fans tend to get involved more on this regional forum, than on the main forum for a number of reasons.

Anyway

I was trying to put myself in your shoes, and decide on what the one pen should be.

I've only been an addict for 6 months, but have amassed some 20+ Chinese pens and love every one for different reasons.

One thing I would say though, is that every pen has looked better in the flesh than it did in the pics, and the variety in shape, width, size, weight etc. just doesn't come across when comparing pens in online pictures.

So

Back to the task in hand, & how to choose "the one" pen.

I decided that my recommendation, if it helps, would be based on which of all my pens really impressed me and "knocked my socks off" the most when it arrived.

And the answer, after a little deliberation,is

The Kaigelu 316.

It really is a sensational pen.

It has it all..looks, feel, presence, the wow factor, it writes beautifully, and has a gorgeous nib with a gold kangaroo on it.....and there is just something about it.

If I only had one pen, and I received one of these as my "next" pen, I'd be blown away.

I'm not saying that you should just get one on my say so, but have a look at it before you decide, as I'm pretty sure that, if you were to get one, you would not be disappointed.

Just ask Richardandtracy. Lol

Apologies for the long winded post...

Cheers

As a long time forum user and admin, I couldn't in good conscience hijack a thread (although it seems I already have :P).

Which one 1 pen?

I really am leaning towards the Jinhao 5000, I think... I'll probably get it and leave the others on my wish list.

Although, then I have to decide on color... The dark red one I linked to looks nice, but all the other pictures of the red ones (on Google and Amazon) look like bright red and in that case I would prefer the black. Bah, decisions...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
