Seitz-Kreuznach Arctic Blue

Well Seitz-Kreuznach is a pretty new player to the ink market, so Amber just got the bright idea of trying it. Well, I must say that this ink is "interesting," in more than one way (More on that later). I must note that I had this ink in a pen for 1 month, with periodic usage and storage with either the pen horizontal or nib upwards.

This review will follow my normal standard format for reviews, with pictures following a small blurb. The pictures were taken with an iPhone 6, back camera, in artificial lighting. Effort has been made to show the true color, but your milage may vary depending on your monitor. If you would like to see all my ink images, you are free to go to http://files.goviralforyou.com/Inks/Reviews

Here is a preview of the ink. It is a light sky-blue which has a large green tint to it.

The review was written with my Kaigelu 316 in a TWSBI B nib. This TWSBI B is quite wet with most inks, and lays down a nice thick line.

The review was written on HP 32lb Premium Laser Paper, which can be found at Staples for the whooping price of $19.99, or on Amazon for $15.39. This is my new "standard" paper I will be using for all my reviews, writing, and comparisons. I still have a bit of HP 28lb, which is now discontinued, but I am going to be moving to this one now, as it is much better, IMO.

Here is the swab of the ink. It was pulled from my latest project, a crowd-sourced ink swab database found here http://inkymadness.tk/. This is my own swab that I am using here, but many other people's swabs of lots of inks can be found there! You are free to contribute your swabs as well by emailing them to me at admin@inkymadness.tk.

This ink is a sky-blue ink with a noticeable green tint, making it like tropical water somewhat. This ink is mediumly wet, and provides a fair amount of lubrication. There is definitely some feedback from nib, but nothing too major. There is definitely some shading, from a lighter to a medium hue. There is no spread, feathering, show through, or bleed through on this paper, and the ink is somewhat saturated.

Now comes my discussion on the problems with this ink. Like I said earlier, I kept this ink in my pen for about a month or so, with moderate usage, and managed to finish a full converter in that time period. At first, when I was cleaning, I noted a good amount of sheen (a red-gold tint) on the feed. I thought this was normal as some other inks do that. I took the converter out of water blasting, and noticed the cartridge nipple area had a noticeable blue-green stain. Well that isn't a major problem, but keep it in mind. Next, I took apart my nib unit to clean the nib and feed individually. The feed had a lot of red sheen which I thought would rinse out. However, after a good 10 minutes under running water, the red was still there! Time for extreme measures, I thought as I put the feed into a vial to be shaken with water. 10 minutes of shaking and only a little bit of change. Every time I shake, the water turns blue, so I know the sheen is caused by the ink, and is actually some sort of staining. It was time for even more extreme measures, so I put a small drop of dish soap in the vial with the water and feed, then vigorously shook it around. I had to do this 3 times before the water finally ran clear, and the feed was clean. I also had to do the same process with the nib sleeve. DO NOT LEAVE THIS INK IN THE PEN FOR A LONG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ink takes the same amount of time as other inks at roughly 15 seconds.

Here is a poorly drawn ghost to show how the ink looks with sketching, and coloring.

I left the comparison section blank on the review form, but I will be showing swabs of similar inks here. This is a my new format that I am trying out for the comparisons. Tell me what you think. The swabs used here are from my latest project, a crowd-sourced ink swab database found here [http://inkymadness.tk/]. This is my own swab that I am using here, but many other people's swabs of lots of inks can be found there! Here is a water test. The top grid had drops of water placed for 10 seconds, then vigorously wiped downwards. The bottom text did not receive any drops of water and was only wiped with in the same motion as the grid. This ink performed very well on this test. There was only very slight lifting on the grid, where the water was placed. There is little to no wet smear. The following picture is the final result of the test.

Lastly, here is a scan of the review. Use the scan to read the rest of the review. I did not intend for it to show color accuracy. The pictures are the most accurate representation of the color.

That's all folks! I would give this ink a 5.5/10. If you liked this review, stay tuned for more to come!

I spotted this ink a while ago and was very tempted at what I thought the colour would be. Initially (in the ad I saw) it looked like a very light blue, but it's more of a green teal, which is sort of disappointing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
