Crack In Cap Lip (Under Gold Band) - Recommend Me Fountain Pen Restorers Who Can Handle This?

I swear, I have the worst luck...

I had a batch of pens that recently arrived today after being fixed by Danny Fudge. Included was my Big Red that I was especially excited about. It didn't even come out of the package more than 5 minutes when I had to put it down to take a phone call (Danny Fudge really did an incredible job, I might add. I have photos of what the nib looked like before I sent it to him, and the difference is just amazing). Long story short, something startles my dog and she knocked it over and it fell to the floor. Now it has a crack in the cap's lip, under the gold band. I have been super depressed about this all day. Anyone know who I could send it to for repairs? I checked Ron Zorn (Danny Fudge especially recommended him) but I'm seeing he's not available at the moment.I want to send it to someone who's especially great at this kind of thing, but I imagine a number of people are. This is a photo of the damage, if it helps:

I've been contemplating a number of places, but I'm really open to any suggestions at the moment.

Er...what about that huge crack running under the clip ball?

Well, yeah that's the crack that I'm talking about, but it starts underneath the gold band.

This probably won't be an easy fix, I imagine. The crazy thing was that when I obtained this pen, the person had said there was a crack in that area it but I hadn't noticed and though that they made a mistake. Obviously, this didn't help.

Update: I got in touch with Danny and he recommended Joel Hamilton. I have reached out to him. I'll see what he says and give him a call if I don't hear back. I'm super hopeful now, based on the things I've read about him.

Might be easier to replace the cap.

I realize we have some miracle working Pros but I think that cap is a goner.

One crack or the other. But not both.

You're probably right, unfortunately :/ It's a shame because I saw a Streamline cap for a Duofold. Wanted to buy it because it would fit, but it's not the same cap :/

If anyone has a spare red flat top cap they could sell me, please let me know.

I wish that's not the case, Bruce. I'll brace myself for the worst if Joel gets back to me with a not too enthusiastic response.

Well, I've got some amazing news. Joel agreed to fix the cap and he really made it look brand new. I know it's been a while but I just wanted to report back to anyone who might run into any cracks with their pens and need someone to fix them. I can't get over the incredible work he did. He didn't just fix this pen but he also fixed a Waterman 52 with a gold band. Both look absolutely incredible. Very happy to own such beautiful pens and it's all thanks to Joel <3

Great to hear. Sounds like I should keep his email address handy. Can you provide it?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
