Montblanc Fountain Pen For $39.85 Canadian?

Came across an online store in Canada called "Exclusively for Him" which sells gifts for men. On their fountain pen page they have what appears to be an MB Classique for $39.85 Canadian. This can't be correct, can it?

Here's the hint: No where in the ad does it say the pen is a Montblanc despite the pictures. And the refill it takes? Montblanc or Picasso (which is a Chinese brand.) It is a counterfeit from China.

I think it is also interesting that the other (24) pens "ESPECIALLY for men" all appear be Kawecos. So a man either is expected to only like Kaweco or the sole other choice of "a fine pen" (the afore mentioned Montblanc clone?) Their audience seems a bit "narrow in scope!"

It really surprises me that they can so blatantly copy Montblanc features ie "4810" on nib, type of box, logo on end cap, etc and not be in violation of copyright law.

You may find many pens for that sort of price that appear to be Montblanc pens, but they are all copies from China. Montblanc take down many web-sites every day that have pens blatantly called Montblanc pens that are exact copies in every detail to the authentic versions. By the next day there are even more web-sites selling exactly the same products.

Sure they violate copyright law.

Copyright law is a very fluid concept in China. It basically doesn't exist.

I guess that is a true and genuine

NON BLANC

(and not only because it is black ;) )

Funnily this company offers the Kaweco pens at realistic prices...

No problem is you do not care it is not a real MB but just like the looks I suppose....

Only thing is.... How reliable is a company that makes these offers???

Be careful :excl:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
