Most of my comments are above. The paper is Block Rhodia No. 18 (size A4, 80g paper). This ink is quite beautiful, I see it as a dark royal tone i.e. slightly reddish in comparison with La Reine Mauve or Murasaki Shikibu (the only other two purples I own right now). It does sometimes take a little starting in my Monteverde Invincia sometimes, but I attribute that more to my being lefthanded than to the ink or pen. Drying time seems good--by the 30 second mark it was totally dry to the touch. Shading is existent but not super obvious like in my other inks (tsuki-yo comes to mind).

This will definitely be a regular of mine. :) I'm glad I hopped on board with this new ink. I know it's expensive, but eh... there's a collector's angle with these inks (and the bottles are gorgeous). I have some more inks coming in the mail, but they are all well known already. Can't wait!

This is my first ink review.

ETA: Oops, I misspelled "Pelican" in the written review, thinking of the English name for the bird. Oh well. Not the first, nor the last person to misspell the name of that company :P

It's nice, isn't it? I just got it in the mailbox today and I love it! It is similar to the new MB Lavender, but slightly darker and more "muted". Nice flow, not as dry as most Pelikan inks.

Nice review of what looks like a nice ink. I suspect you have no need to blame your left-handedness for the slow starts in your pen. I have a Monteverde Invincia Deluxe with the 1.1 stub nib, and it is a bit slower to start than my other pens are.

Agreed! I haven't had issues with it so far. All of the inks I've purchased are fairly well behaved thusfar.

Nice review... thank you

I have been waiting for it to come out and can't find it anywhere. The couple of places I asked said they had a release date of June.

Sooo... where did you find it ?

Seitz-Global had a small stock of them on Amazon the week after it was released, and I was lucky enough to get a bottle that shipped from Germany. I don't see it on Amazon any more, though, so it might be on backorder. :\

Ah, I see! Thank you for the notice. I have a fine nib as well, but the stub is quite fun.

This ink is more and more reminds me to the Pelikan 4001 Violet in a better packing, but I don't own this one to make comparison.

I use Pelikan 4001 Violet in one of the pens I use every day, and the color is quite a bit less red than what I've seen in reviews of Edelstein Amethyst.

This was a photo taken from my review of this ink https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/266286-pelikan-4001-violett-violet/

The truth is in the middle..... But I guess it remains the fact theat the Edelstiein is just a slightly changed 4001 ink in a fancy bottle I think...

Well I love Pelikan both the Pens and the 4001 Inks.

Still not sure whether I find the 4001 Violet to Feminin (Bright or pinkish)

Here is a Comparison of Pelikan 4001 aka Edelstein Amethyst with a violet I very much like.... J Herbin Poussiere de Lune

And this is a purple mixi made with D-A Document inks which I like a lot... Can use it at work too and it is permanent

La Reine Mauve is my permanent ink, and is also a permanent purple. :))

I would argue that, at least from these scans, Pelikan Edelstein Amethyst is darker than Pelikan 4001 Violet, which has some real pink tones to it. Considering that the Amethyst was formulated after a contest w/ votes, it's probably -just- a slightly changed Violet (one would hope). It will be exciting to see if someone does a comparison. My hunch is that Amethyst will be darker and a little redder (vs pink).

Thanks for the input, guys!

Appreciate the heads up ... he has 13 left for those who are impatient as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
