Spiral Bound, Fp Friendly, Compact Notebook - Suggestions?

FreshFocusPhoto

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a new desk notebook - something small, about 3"x5".

It must be able to fold over on itself and have FP friendly paper. I'm using a Circa compact right now but not 100% thrilled with the paper.

I've been looking for months and haven't found the "one". Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Spiral bound on the top or side? Clairefontaine makes a small spiral bound & their paper is luscious with FPs, but I think it's only available as a top-bound.

They sell Black n' Red notebooks widely at Stapels and RiteAid here in the US.

The smaller spiral bound is slightly larger than what you're looking for.

It's 5 7/8" x 41/8" so a bit larger, but it's a good size to fit in a purse, maybe not in a pocket.

It comes with an elastic enclosure, and a double wire spiral bound, i.e., each ring has two wires. It can fold over on itself just fine.

Paper is quite nice for FP, I've never had any issues.

Bigger than what you are looking for (5.8X8.3") but I have recently been using the Bloc Rhodia #16. This top bound spiral notebook in dot pad also features top perforation so if/when you remove pages they have a clean top edge. And of course it's Rhodia paper so very much FP friendly. I am liking this product much more than I expected.

Nearer to your size specification, I use Rhodia dotpad #12. A stapled top with perforated tear out 3.3X4.7".

The 4"x4" Metaphys notebook: a very light dot grid and nice paper. Fits in any pocket. Not spiral-bound but if you're not a stickler it's a nice product.

I'd prefer a side bound - not too fond of top bound notebooks for some reason. I know.........I'm picky. I shall investigate your suggestions - thank you!

Can this fold back on itself?

Not all the way - it's clothbound. I imagine with some abuse it could fold back nicely.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
