Stains On A Green Pelikan M1000 Barrel

I bought yesterday a green striped Pelikan m1000 and inked up. Today I saw stains on the barrel. I am sure that it is not from the outside. I flushed the pen with water and the stain didn't go. I am sure it wasn't there when I bought the pen. There are 2 more stains and one of them is above the level of the piston. Is this normal or should I send the pen for repair?

Was the pen bought new or used? I'm having a hard time identifying the "stains" you are describing from the picture that you presented. There should certainly not be stains anywhere but especially above the piston if the seal is competent. Can you take some better photos of these areas so we can get a better sense of what you're describing. Also, how did you ink up the pen? Walk us through it so we can better understand the problem. Thanks!

It is a new pen. Just dipped the pen into ink to the standart bottle of the Edelstein. Here is a closer look. Sorry but I can only take photos with my tablet for the moment.

The stain above the level of the piston is just a stripe wide so it is difficult to show it here but it is same type of stain.

I have been meaning to ask this as well. My brand new m1000 bought from a dealer in S'pore has them too. About where they are in the picture but mine are larger and uglier. Didn't notice when I bought it but it is starting to annoy me know.

Do you think that this is covered with the warranty

If the pen is new, then I would contact the retailer you bought it from and bring it up with them first.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
