New Pelikan Collectors Box

Fritz Schimpf

Recommended Posts

Pelikan is starting to offer a collectors box for 24 writing instruments. The box is made of wood and has three drawers for eight pens each. Each segment offers enough space even for a M1000. The dimensions of the box are quite small, so it should fit on many desks. Some pictures can be found here: http://www.fritz-schimpf.de/Schreibtischzubehoer/Pelikan-Sammler-Schatulle-fuer-24-Schreibgeraete.html

Looks incredible.

From what I've seen, you'll struggle to find a nice quality wooden display box that'll hold that many pens for much less either.

It is very good looking. Personally I would be very keen to see one in person to get an idea of the construction methods and materials used.

This item does make a good desk top box. I have something similar on my desk which holds 36 pens which I was able to pick up for cosiderably less than the $240.00 Pelikan is asking. Both Mainstreet pens, and Indy Pen Dancde carry them.

I have on my list of "to do's" to make a box for pen storage, but considerably largger than that, hperhaps capacity for 150-200 pens plus ink and the praphenalia. Something similar to a Gerstner machinist's tool chest only not designed for portability.

I love the looks of that box. It's very sharp. I don't think it's worth the asking price though, not for just 24 pens. Would love to know what it's made from. I'd be broke buying them since it would take 4.5 of these to house my flock and I could never choose just a top 24 to house.

Thank you very much for sharing Fritz.

You can try to store other brands of pen in the box, but it voids the manufacturer's warranty.

Was a joke... because, you know... it's a box...

In Germany everything is more expensive...if made in the EU.

I have a high classed cherry wood one that, with two 15 pens drawers and glass covered 15 pen top shelf, that my wife bought me for a birthday, from my B&M.

I've not looked for the exact price....but things made out of China are often more expensive in the worker needs to eat and go on vacation twice a year.

I do still have pens in my walnut and burl venier cigar cases for other pens.

Sigh... my desk cups....each a different color....for that color of ink.

Do have 2,500 book den getting in the way of my inkwell and pen collection.

I have seen those four foot high/2 foot wide pen chests....that I don't need....

I can't afford it and the 500/700 more pens. ;)

:( ...need the that sized filing cabinet that takes up that 'free space'.

It's $20 dollars for the box, the Pelikan decal adds the other $220.

To be fair to Pelikan, any pen case I've ever seen has been over $100. Some well over $100, so I wouldn't call this outrageous if it used nice materials / has good construction. My case (by Geoff of pencase.co.uk), for example, cost a little over $100, and can hold 30 pens + a large ink/accessories drawer (the standard chest without ink drawer can hold 50 pens).

There are cases I've seen that cost $800 that aren't substantially different from this case, aside from holding more pens. I don't know if it has better materials or construction, of course, but compared to those cases, this seems downright cheap.

C'mon $200 is outrageous...who in their right mind will buy it...unless you have gads of discretionary income

That's a very beautiful pen box, but I think priced way beyond what you get.

Edited to add: Massdrop has a "Lanier Mahogany Chest for 46 or 76 Pens" for $274 plus $20 shipping. Don't know if that's high or not. As of this post there are only 2 days left.

With the coupon it gets to be 145 euros, which is just under the 150 euros for free shipping. So, one can add an ink and it ships for free too! It's a steal. The only thing is that they don't seem to have it in stock right now, but expect to receive it the next week (that is what their email to me stated when I bought mine on Friday).

My box, a bit bigger dark cherry wood glass top, is very well made...or I'd taken it back to my B&M, who can not afford to sell cheap junk....or even worse....expensive junk.

When one looks for what one gives out for a new 400 or 800, then that Pelikan box is not all that expensive.

It is a bit too much for a collection of Jotters.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
