Private Reserve American Blue

Amber sent me a large sample of this ink in the most recent SuperPinks shipment. Here is a review of this ink.

This review will follow my normal standard format for reviews, with pictures following a small blurb. The pictures were taken with an iPhone 6, back camera, in artificial lighting. Effort has been made to show the true color, but your milage may vary depending on your monitor. Note that pictures have been edited for color accuracy. If you would like to see all my ink images, you are free to go to http://inkyreviews.tk/

Here is a preview of the ink. The ink is a deep blue.

The review was written with my favorite, the Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator, in a TWSBI B nib. The TWSBI B is slightly finer than the Nemosine B, but not by much. It's only a hairline difference.

The review was written on HP 32lb Premium Laser Paper, which can be found at Staples for the whooping price of $19.99, or on Amazon for $15.39. This is my new "standard" paper I will be using for all my reviews, writing, and comparisons. I still have a bit of HP 28lb, which is now discontinued, but I am going to be moving to this one now, as it is much better, IMO.

The swab for the ink will be found in the later pictures of the ink journal.

The ink is a deep blue color. The ink is very wet and provides a good amount of lubrication. There is some shading from a medium to a dark color. There is no spread, feathering, or bleed through on this paper. There is a little bit of show through, but it is not major. The ink is very saturated, and a dark color. There is no dry smear.

The ink takes a bit longer to dry that some other inks, averaging at roughly 22 seconds. However, this isn't a big problem for me as I'm a strong overwriter.

Here is a poorly drawn ghost to show how the ink looks with sketching, and coloring. My friend used a white pen to draw a mouth.

Here are pictures from the ink journal I have of these mystery inks. They include a writing sample, coloring sample, swab sample, and basic characteristics of the ink from my B nibs.

Here is a water test. The top grid had drops of water placed for 10 seconds, then vigorously wiped downwards. The bottom text did not receive any drops of water and was only wiped with in the same motion as the grid. The ink did not perform well on this test. There was a lot of lifting from the grid, leaving the lines only barely visible. There was a lot of wet smear, but the text was still somewhat readable.

Lastly, here is a scan of the review. Use the scan to read the rest of the review. I did not intend for it to show color accuracy. The pictures are the most accurate representation of the color.

That's all folks! I would give this ink a 7/10. If you liked this review, stay tuned for more to come!

I can´t see the images :(

Oh. I set up a new web server, so the new DNS could take a day to send out to every computer.

I would suggest that you use the Upload tab to place your pictures. That way if you ever take down your web server your pictures will not disappear (as has happened with too many old posts on FPN)

Yes. I know I really should be doing that. However, I do on occasion make changes to the picture after the 24 hour default editing photo. I would like those edits to be reflected on FPN as well. I also like to retain control of the pictures uploaded.

you know your photos are not working.. :o :yikes:

Yes I know. I set up a new web server, so the new DNS could take a day to send out to every computer. They will be on within 24 hours though, so just refresh tomorrow.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
