A vintage Aurora 88 could also be a great choice...

If you buy only one Aurora and have an affinity for vintage, I heartily second this suggestion.

I think the Auroroloid Optimas are the pick. I have the Europa and the Oceania. THe Europa would be my pick. THe vintage 88s are good; but not so different from the Parker 51s and therefore nice (more flex than parker) but not so unique. The Optimas have fabulous nibs (with nice feedback). Maybe even try the demonstrator with red celluloid tip: (pic from Web)

Thank you for the input about the 88P! As for the demonstrator, I'm going to get lynched for saying this, but it reminds me of the Pilot CH92. :P

May I ask which pen this is, and does the journal come with it? Thanks for sharing!

It's Aurora Giuseppe Verdi - Opera, Limited Edition. Journal comes separately.

Another vote on the Afrika (or any of the one of it's same shape/size/feature), even though it's the only Aurora I currently own.

Seems a couple people already showed that off.

It just glows.

Hastil

Thank you for responding again after so long - in fact I did end up purchasing a vintage Hastil. :)

They do be neat and I consider them to be the best of Aurora's designs.

I picked up a Thesi as well, but as far as I can tell it's designed to be perfectly unergonomic. I cannot even figure out how it's supposed to be held. It does look pretty sitting on my desk though, and the mechanism is fun to play with.

There were two versions of the Thessi IIRC, the Hastil Thesi fountain pen which is typical Hastil and a ball point that was more like a carpenters pencil. The carpenters pencil made some sense since the flat surface would keep it from rolling away but I never understood the Aurora Thesi ball point.

Interesting, I did not know about the "Hastil Thesi", mine is the ballpoint. Time for some research!
