Parker Duofold Deluxe - Cap Not Screwing On

With the pen fully assembled, the threads do not engage? Do they catch at all and just skip? If you take the naked barrel and the cap without the inner cap, does it still not catch? Is it going in, but not catching, or does it not go in far enough?

If everything else is ruled out with all the troubleshooting above outstanding input...

You can make a tiny adjustment using a band clamp and gentle heat to tighten the cap threads just a tiny bit.

You can buy it on pentooling.com

or it is a one of these

(sorry pentooling for giving out your secret), and you also need to buy the matrix band material. I have a big roll of plain straight stuff - works fine.

Then put clamp over the cap at the level of the threads, place over PROPER heat, and tighten up just a tiny bit. Check progress. When it fits, stop, and let it cool a while. You risk leaving signs of the technique on the cap, but you can polish this out afterwards.

AGAIN - only if you are sure that there is a thread size mismatch, and not an issue with the nib too far out or an incorrect section that is too wide for the cap.

You might want to review the thread for the answers to some of these questions.

I don't recommend the technique outlined in this post. In the general case where threads skip due to shrinkage or the barrel threads, it is far better to expand the barrel threads than to contract the cap in the area of the threads.

Frankly, there was so much back and forth with the questions that I lost track of the details of the situation. I am also in the habit of confirming important information before acting on it.

Daniel - How do you expand the barrel threads? Never really occurred to me that I could do it from that side. I always like to learn new techniques - Never know when they will come in handy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
