Black with tumultuous blue - what perfect AEP colors! Beautiful pen, Allan

Beautiful, indeed! I just got mine from the Post Office Purgatory today. Inked it up with Montblanc Blue Black, which is PERFECT for this pen (and, bonus, I'll get to use it more at work since the ink is permanent.)

Yummy! :D

It's the standard B nib for MB. They all come slightly stubbed, straight from the factory. But they're handmade, so each one varies slightly. I got one from Multiechelon that's almost an M, it's so narrow, yet still has that lovely stubbing, whereas another pen I have, it's almost a BB. That's why it's luck of the lottery for those of us who can't get to stores in person.

The 146 is usually less than the 149. If they don't have it in stock, they can order. Or check Swisher's next sale they run. They usually honor their sale prices, even if they have to order. Most of the shops will match each other's deals.

If you're aiming for new, I'd wait 'til after Christmas since it's so late in the year. Late January, the sales can get really juicy.

I see the 146 from FPH is in the $490 ballpark currently. What sort of sales prices do they get down to if I wait until late Jan? PM me if it is not appropriate to discuss specifics...but I'm just looking for ballparks.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Now I went with Herbin's Bleu Nuit because the shading suited the pen so well.

I'll have to try that one - I've been swapping and flushing inks in various pens all evening. I find that MB Blue Black with this nib (a nice M) is the exact color of the lighter blue highlights of the Poe. You know, as an aside, I did a swap of Herbin Orange Indien with Ambre de Birmanie in the Modiglioni. I just have to say - the Herbin ink flushed and rinsed to clear SO FAST! Wow.

I may need to get meeself some more Herbin. For my Montblancs, of course (to swing this back to the topic). :D

Now you know why I'm a Herbin lover. I keep the PR inks for the black or silver pens where it won't matter if residue lingers awhile.

That is a stunning nib. I absolutely love the picture of the raven on the nib. I might have to look and see if I can see the pictures of the rest of the Writer's series pens.

Snapped mine in two a few years ago and just got it repaired, new barrel and cap.

Welcome back, a very smooth writer.

Amazing piece.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
