Great pen! The nib is not original, the top cap looks to be of a secondary line of pens ( not the Meisterstuck), so I would rule out the 20, 25, 30....

I believe is a type III Azurite MB, The nib size as to do with the pen size and can go up to #6, if I am not mistaken.

Check if there is any number in the blind cap or any engraving in the cap itself

Dimensions of the pen would help us get you better information. From the pictures and unless you have huge hands it looks to be the smaller size #2

Not sure about the clip. MB did used that drop shape clips but the ones I´ve seen all have Montblanc engraved in them. Also the external diameter of that clip looks smaller than the external diameter of the cap tube

Great find indeed!!

Okay. I have *finally* seen a MB pen I actually wanted to own....

Yes, this is very nice find!

I believe piscov is correct; this looks like a "III. Sorte no. A" from c. 1934-35 in azurite blue (white spots) but this would make it a third-line pen. Unfortunately the nib is not correct.

I have seen clips like this even most (but not all) are engraved "Montblanc".

What I'm wondering about is that the mentioned pen should be c. 15 cm long according to literature?

Cap top and clip look larger compared to the cap tube as noted already. Maybe this is due to shrinkage of the celluloid. But also maybe body and cap are from a smaller second-line pen like the 221 or 220 and clip and cap top were added later as a replacement ?! Hard to tell from the pictures...

So even this was from one of Montblancs more affordable line of pens this is a valuable pen today! Color of the celluloid is very nice! Hopefully you'll find a matching nib for it. You might want to contact one of the experts on www.penboard.de to check if they have a matching nib. Definitely worth of having it restored.

Take good care of it

Cheers

Michael

Yes, "azurite" was a blue (either with white spots on blue or blue spots on blue) colored celluloid used by Montblanc in the early 1930's (along e.g. malachite green).

A lot are discolored today :-(

Cheers

I've held many, but never moved to take one home. I suppose it's the same material found in blue Duofolds, blue Wahl deco bands and blue Enduras.

Thanks for the update. It looks like a lovely pen.

Too bad the picture is on top of all those other low quality pens. ;)

That's one beautiful pen! I never new Montblanc made pens other than black. I'd love to see a close photo of the nib too.

Hello everyone.
I´m from Argentina, and this is my first post.

Few weeks ago I opened an old cardboard box, with many collectibles inside, that belonged to my grandpa.

The box was closed for over 40 years.

There were three montblanc pens, Kaweko, Parkers, and others.

But there´s a rare one, the same colour as the one of this topic.

For what I was told in some other collector´s sites, it is apparently a MontBlanc 422 Tintenkuli, azurite blue, papyrus clip, and short top.

And supposed to be from 1934 to 1936.

As I´m planning to sell it, I will much appreciate if you can tell me whatever you consider I may know about it.

Thank you very much in advance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
