What Do You Think About The Montblanc Notebooks?

I got the python notes and find the paper excellent for FP. The cover is a matter of preference, but the notes refills are good. However, if you are using a wet B nib, I wouldn't recommend writing on both sides of the page.

It also makes a great background for photographing your pens :)

cheers

I actually use the Medium "notes" refill as my regular notebook with no MB leather sleeve or cover. I like the quality of the paper beats new Moleskins with less feathering and no skipping. That said they do not open flat, which can be annoying at times.

4810 westside lying in the wardrobe for the past few months. Top quality and don't feel like using it, fear of spoiling it :)

Thanks shanbo, last pen (2 of them) is Visconti Divine Comedy. I bought 2 of them. The first one was just hand rubbed with a silver polishing cloth to take off the gold plating, it was Bryant's personal pen that he sold me. The second one is how they normally come, which I bought off eBay some time ago. I have since sold the eBay pen to a co-worker who kept asking me to sell it to him... I have the pen Bryant sold me. They're very hard to find these days, I think they only make 388 of them.

VivienR,

I have to say no one else makes such beautifully crafted notebooks like MB. Sure, there are plenty of others but I've never seen anyone else that had the same leather quality and crafted/stitched as fine. The quality control and detailing is really incredible.

Just my opinion.

  • 8 months later...

Seems i had a bad batch then, didn't bother buying a refill, since the one that came with mine was really bad, feathering, show through, you name it. Now i wonder if it was because it sat there opened for too long, might order a replacement from appelboom to try my luck since the dimensions are a bit odd, and haven't found anything similar enough to try.

Nearly a year later and I'm in the same boat. Mine also feathers and bleeds through really bad. Any luck with another? Don't mind buying one more if I can have confirmation that I just had one bad apple. But another FPN users similar experience discourages me :/

I have 2 medium "Notes" notebooks, bought months apart last year, one from the online MB store, one from a MB boutique and the bleed through / ghosting is bad on both no matter what pen and ink I use. Not too much feathering though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
