Is there any information on the auction items? I need to know how much money to bring ("enough" or "all of it" don't quite fly)...

Thanks,

Brian

Gary, I will be at the show Friday afternoon and maybe for the auction. I have non-pen fun planned the rest of the weekend.

Then we should plan to meet. I'm going to be there Friday, and part of Saturday. I grew up near there, so I also have other things planned.

We could meet in the auction preview room, say 3:00?

Well, the other bidders hope it isn't enough. Auctions can be that way, Ya' Know.

Yep, one person's enough is another person's too much is another person's pocket change...

Or, another way to say it is, "no guts, no glory". That works in all collectable auctions, & the stock market. And a few other things. :)

Chicago is starting! Things to know -

We are almost sold out!

Parking is $8 all day at the hotel or free at the parking structure which is catty corner and one building down (not strictly catty corner - I was a bit optimistic there)

There is construction going on (what part of Chicago didn't you get?) but you can turn off of Higgins or Mannheim right at the hotel just watch the entrances.

Thursday we will be in the O'Hare East room.

Friday through Sunday table holders can set up at their tables with no tear downs the entire weekend! The same security firm has been hired (many of you will recognize Ken) and there will be security all weekend.

See you all there!!!

Good Morning:

Does that 'free' parking structure have a address or a name?

Thanks, and good luck with the show.

The only road parallel to Mannheim is Orchard Place and it is on that just North of Zemke. There are not that many buildings on this corner at all - so Northeast corner Orchard Place and Zemke.

IIRC, the parking structure Roger refers to is a multi-level lot attached to the office building that is actually catty-corner from the Sheraton Hotel. The lot is behind the office building, but you can see it from the driveways around the hotel. The parking structure is to the east of the hotel and office building.

See you all bright and early Saturday morning!

THANK YOU, ROGER, PAT AND DON!

I flew from Scramento for the Chicago show, and very happy I did!

Steve Mandel was outstanding as auctioneer. He made it lots of fun:))))))

Very happy I made the trip,

Doug

Hey guys, I bought a pen at the show and need to get in touch with the guy I bought it from. I'm pretty sure it was Tim Pearson. Does anyone have his contact information?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
