75 Nib, 52 1/2 V Body...can They Marry?

I'm looking for a broad nib to put into one of my little ringtops, and I notice a #75 nib available on the Interweb. Before I throw my money in the street I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if a #75 nib would fit into one of these wee little pens?

How about a Warranted #4 - broad flex? One wants to buy the nib, then find a pen for it.

A #75 nib doesn't mean much to me ... there is no real standard size.

Are you talking of a nib coming from a Waterman #75 pen ?

They're both over 14. Well over.

The nib is marked sideways: "Waterman's 75 Made In USA" and it's not on the chart of Fountain Pen Nib Values. Could it be a fake?

I thought it might have been too late. Thanks for the - you should pardon the expression - tip.

There's a #12 eyedropper with the wrong cap on ebay. Perhaps I can scavenge that nib - or is that too early?

This doesn't look like a fountain pen nib to me (a dip pen model one ?... or not a "L.E. Waterman" production ? ..)

I've seen similar ones on other nib dealers' sites, but the hooded nib of the Taperite makes identification tricky.

Freddy seems pretty definitive...have you taken one apart, darling?

It doesn't look much like my Parker 75 nib.

Besides, which way would you raise the children ?

I will admit that I thought you were asking about a Parker 75 nib myself.

Waterman #2 nibs, which is what you need, are readily available and relatively inexpensive. Ball park of $35-$45 depending on line width and amount of flex. The 75 nib you are looking at doesn't look like it will work - wrong shape and taper for one thing, no shoulders. Some later nibs were the same size as the #2, just marked differently - they're an option too if you aren't concerned about having the right nib for the pen.

There's a #12 on eBay...it has the wrong cap and a #2 Broad nib. If nobody notices it...

Oops...somebody did.

But I found one somewhere else, for a little less money. You just have to scroll through EVERY item on the damn site.

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought the nib, but when I put my triplet on it, I saw that the tines were widely separated, so it's only sort-of medium. Perhaps I'll ask someone to make it a small stub.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
