Sailor Storia Pigmented Ink

Sailor's pigmented inks, Kiwa-Guro (black) and Sei-Boku (blue-black), are waterproof and have a reputation for good characteristics. But, until now, have only been available in those two effective but unexciting colors.

Taizo Okagaki (Ebay seller Engeika) has just started advertising for pre-orders of new Sailor Storia pigmented inks on his engeika-dot-com website (No affiliation). Eight colors: Fire Red, Dancer Pink, Night Blue, Magic Purple, Ballon Green, Clown Yellow Green, Spotlight Yellow, Lion Light Brown. Not inexpensive at MSRP of $18 for a 30ml bottle plus shipping.

It looks like ink-mixers may now have a complete CMYK palate in pigmented inks. I don't know what Sailor officially says about mixing their inks.

I have contacted my usual source, cool-japan, on ebay to see if he plans to carry these. Given their pigmented nature, I probably will wait until a few more adventurous souls have tried them. That, and I have enough ink to last about 500 years.

Sailor has now released the new Storia coloured pigmented inks, and the usual Japanese retailers have them in stock.

Anyone have them on order yet?

I received the blue, the red, and the purple a few days ago, but have not had time to play with them. They appear to be very fundamental colors, and I anticipate that there will be a good bit of mixing going on.

I'm really excited to hear you got a few, since I had planned to wait for someone else to post samples before I snagged these ones. :) Let us know how they are!

My thoughts exactly.

Those little "faux paint can” boxes they come in just cry out for mixing.

Just loaded a Sailor Pro Gear with a 21k MF nib with the Storia Blue. There is actually some shading!

A shading pigmented permanent ink?

Stop tempting me, and whatever you do please don't post up a pic of said shading.

The Dastardly Den of Dye (and Pigment) Delivery. We have a secret pact and handshake and everything.

I ordered mine through Engeika; my package shipped a couple days ago. (Unfortunately, they lowered the price after I ordered, and are not responding to my requests for a refund or more ink in lieu of a refund. Oh, well. It's only money.)

Hi,

For a 'shading pigmented permanent ink', one need look no farther afield than Sailor sei-boku. It is really quite amazing stuff, and handles dilution out to 10% concentration with ease.

US$29 per bottle, including shipping. Less than Kingdom Note, but more than Kobe.

Oops, yes. Sailor Kiwa-Guro was the boring, but oh so satiny black, ink in question. Sei-boku is an ink I tried many moons ago (are we allowed to use the words 'moon' and 'sailor' together on this forum?) and have tried to forget, as it was one of the few Sailor inks I'd come across that was badly behaved.

I really like the bottles - they're frosted glass and very pretty, with good lids. They have a mini inkwell like the bigger Sailor bottles, which I am not a personal fan of, but I know some people like.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
