Are you sure on the year, the '52 ads I've seen feature the gold snorkel tube, noting the snorkel launched last quarter '52 as well and by March '53 the gold tube was gone from the ads but I'm not sure exactly when. Maybe a '53 one?

The lower right-hand corner says "Copyright 1952." This is the only way I have to date this page. Sorry I can't be more help.

The boy with the straw appears in the August 1953 Life magazine and the copyright is also 1953.  This one comes from the proof copy and is on my website - http://www.sheafferf...ery=8&nggpage=5

Snorkels are great pens.  The write very well and filling them with the device was really easy and simple.  I have quite a few in my collection and I use them often.  The triumph nib writes very smoothly.
