New Pelikan M805 Demonstrator 2015

i had heard this was coming... but the version with markings is a surprise! i have the older 800 with markings so i guess i have to get this one too, no? and i have the m1005 demo so maybe it would be cool to have a plain 805 demo too, right? and then it has also been reported that there is an orange 800 or 805 on the release calendar for 2015 - which is my favorite color - so i gotta do that one too for sure.

i am starting to think that pelikan may be taking advantage of weak people like me :(

If weak people like us didn't exist Pelikan would go out of business, so just think of yourself as a charity :D

And weak people like you, have a bad influence on reasonable people like us :).

Two enchanting reviews and there go my savings for pens like these.. :wallbash:

Interesting, but in a pen of that price range I prefer a "finished" model, not a demonstrator!

Explicit consent!

It will cost a lot of money - for cheap looking plastic? Never!

In my childhood, there were transparent Bic Ballpoints (20 cent).

I don't want this look back in the form of fountain pens, paying 500 $ or more

I will have to agree with the above, that I not that interested in the M800/M1000 demos. I like better the semi-transparent M600/M800 models, the "color o' color" versions and some of the older M620 cities versions.

I grew up with the colored/transparent Sheaffer school pens. As such, I like the transparent/colored M200's. These transparent M200's make good EDC and I like to switch nibs. I.e, I have one with a OM CN nib that I got from missing-pen. Unfortunately, these are hard to find and only the newer and a lot more expensive cognac is available.

I love the look of this demonstrator with rhodium trim and hope they bring it out in the M605 or M405 version.

But I agree--I find it hard to pay top dollar for a demo--haven't even been able to bring myself to get the cute M200/M205 versions

when they can be had with a gold nib for the same price from Pilot or Platinum...

but it is special german cheap looking plastic... btw i paid $1k for my m800 demo w/ markings last year and reckoned it was a good deal - they are very hard to find now so there must be more wackos out there besides me. fwiw from a wacko, i am definitely buying both new versions - i love them.

Yes, you are a wacko. You are in good company here. When I tell people that I have $2K worth of pens in my shirt pocket at any given time, they know that I am crazy. My transparent M1005 looks amazing when filled with the proper ink.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Ha, glad to hear that I'm not the only one who gets stared at when people find out that I have about $2-3k on my person in the form of pens. I actually have become the laughing stock in my company because of my infatuation with pens.

I prefer the original ones which show the real inner life of the M800 series. The M805 demo as well as the M1005 are "optimized" ones.

Demonstrator-Fans: When you have a date with a pretty woman/man, would you really prefer to see her/his "inner life", the entrails, instead of a stylish outfit?

It's not my affair to judge your liking - but I'm astonished, not only because of the cost for a demonstrator, quite often a lot higher (why?) than for the same pen in labour-intensive, stylish outfit

Time to start saving for another Pelikan or two. I still haven't received my Stresemann.

Yes. February has come and gone-- and no Stersemann.

That is always the issue with Demos. Either you like the clear plastic or you don't. No middle ground. FYI - I am with you on this one.

Novelli's email ad lists this at $437. I would think this would help lower the market price for the old ones.

I have a weak spot for demonstrators, and prefer the analogy to be transparent clothing rather than transparent skin.

Of course, not too many people find out how much my pens cost. I write all day long and I discovered years ago that a good pen makes the task of writing more pleasurable. My writing also tends to be more legible when written with a fountain pen as well. It is always fun to have a demonstrator in the pocket with the others so that I can show anyone who asks how a fountain pen works. (I'm trying to get back on topic!) So I'll probably end up buying one of each of the new Pelikan M805s. I haven't used my Green Pelikan Demonstrators from the 90s. The first one I bought because I thought it was attractive, the second one because it was 25% off, and the third because it was 33% off. I don't see those discounts coming on these pens, though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
