I am trying to find good deals on Iro-Shizuku ink line in India. Online retailers generally jack up the price of this ink. Any suggestions are welcome

Luxor India sells some regular fountain pen ink from Pilot but not Iro-Shizuku ink. I guess, if there is group by for 25-35 bottles or more, they might consider to import it. Other way is to contact Raul, Engeika India counterpart. Though he sells this ink at sky rocketing price, you never know you will get a reasonable deal while negotiating with him.

I think some sellers at Mumbai also sell this ink. Hari is the right person to know about that.

That is true. Infact, I think he is the only person in India selling this ink. But he prices it at ~3000 INR which is way beyond what I can afford. I have done business with Raul and on the whole I find him to be a bit unreliable

Thanx for the info on jsubculture. They have got some good deals even though the site looks like it has been designed by someone high on speed

Buying from a Japanese vendor is certainly the least expensive way of getting some of this very nice ink. I just ordered a bottle from j-subculture for $9.08 (USD.) Not sure what shipping to India would add to the price, but I would think the total would still beat the prices charged by non-Japanese vendors.

Here in the USA, most vendors charge $28 - sometimes more - for a bottle of Iroshizuku so I saved about $19 right off the bat. J-subculture also offers expedited shipping for less than it would cost for expedited shipping within the USA, and less than what other Japanese vendors were charging for standard "slow boat" shipping, so it was a win-win situation for me!

J-subculture's search function is very poor, but if you follow this path: Computers/Stationery and Office Supplies/Fountain Pens and then put Iroshizuku in the search box, you can find the ink. (Don't you always look under computers for fountain pens and paraphernalia?!? )

Yet, in the USA, if you don't mind 15ml, there are places where you can get that amount for less than $28.00 or $35.00. Iroshizuku is now available in 15ml Size bottles. Three selections would cost you $25.00, where as one 50ml bottle is the cost aforementioned.

i am interested in asa gao. talked to pensavenue a couple of weeks back. they say they are going to bring the full pilot range to india coming financial year - iroshizuku , vp, custom and all. pensavenue's prices are on the higher side so i assume iroshizuku is going to be costly too. if somebody wants to pool and buy from rakuten i would join in.

It is good that pensavenue is bringing pilot to india. Iroshizuku will be expensive. For example, makoba.com sells iroshizuku for 3000 inr. I like the idea of pooling together and buying iroshizuku. For instance, iroshizuku retails from 8$-15$ in jsubculture, popular ones being more costly, shipping it to india around 1000 yen(500 inr), we can get a much better deal.(not including customs)

i doubt customs will let a bulk ink order slip thru, i bought 4 bottles of ink from rakuten at 1200 yen each, and then the issue of breakage of bottles remains. it will be better if we buy 2-3 bottles at a time and combine shipping the cost would be less than 1000 rupees a bottle. looking at prices on jsubculture and rakuten buying 1-2 bottles at a time it works out to about1000- 1200 rupees shipped per bottle.

if someone has a importer license and save us the customs and shipping breakage loss issues then we have a deal. luxor the official retailer of pilot pens, inks in india would be importing these inks if they found volumes and demand for it.

No point if you want only 1-2 bottles, did some cost benefit analysis.

Also, the cost per bottle for me in this purchase was INR 1,250 per bottle, same as Mont Blanc but ink quantity a little less. I would suggest that in case you guys want to but it, do a group buy with 4-5 people, the more you order, the cheaper it would be. But try not to exceed 4-5, that's where the customs kick in, they usually don't care about parcels of value less than INR 5,000, but if you order more, it will exceed that limit and you'll have to pay taxes.

I have ordered a lot of stuff from abroad and never paid customs mainly because of this.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
