Here's a really cool overlay my jeweler put together for me. Custom clip. He's going to be teaching me to do this type of work very soon.

This is made from a red/black resin, with black ebonite and aluminum bands, with sterling silver clip.

This one is made from blue cowrie, red and black acrylics. This is the pen won by one of the Newton Pens Scholarship fund raising drawings.

I also made some more Tolkien style nib holders. These are a bit darker blue than the first batch.

Don't forget to buy some postcards to get entered into the February drawing! Participation has been slow this month so get in for a really good chance to win a pen and help some kids out with some of their college expenses.

February Scholarship Fund Raiser

Starting now, I’m going to change the way I raise money for the scholarships a little bit. Instead of a two week period post card sale, the cards will be on sale continuously, and the numbering for the pen give away will be for the duration of each month. So from the 1st until the last day, whatever that may be. Post cards will always be for sale from now on – all you have to do is send $10 with paypal to newtonpenspay@gmail.com and a postal address, and I’ll send some cards your way. This means there will be one custom pen give away each month, the winner being announced the last day of the month. If you have any questions, please ask. Yes it’s still free to enter as long as you send a note or postcard in the mail to me at PO Box 6084, Hot Springs, Ar. 71902

Purchase post cards and learn more about the scholarship here.

Be sure to read all the rules if you have any questions...

Rules – The drawings are free for all to enter, from all parts of the world. No restrictions at all. During each monthly period…

Another finished today.

Showcasing the beautiful Italian Creme resin made by my friend Bob.

Now you need to find a way to make it smell like Irish Creme coffee. :D

The Italian Creme is really nifty. It's a higher end alternative for coffee lovers than the coming Pelikan m200 Cafe Creme.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
