Waterman Inspired Blue (South Seas Blue) Review

I would have never guessed it in a million years, but I have recently fallen for turquoise inks. The lovely shading, and bright happy color that most of them offer just tick all of my marks. This one is currently my favorite. I have yet to find anything wrong with this ink. Flow is nice and wet, shading is perfect, feather/ghosting/bleedthrough is all controlled, and in the right pen the sheen is amazing. Instead of the dark red sheen seen on Private Reserve Electric DC Blue, this ink offers a bright electric and almost pink sheen to it. I am in love with this ink and will most definitely be buying a bottle. Seeing as this ink is only 11$ for 50ml, it is an amazing deal as well (around 22¢ per ml). If you have yet to try this ink out then I cannot express how much I like it, and think you should give it a try. Now for the pictures.

Love it! I had blanked out on this color as turquoise, thinking such sky blues were blues...

I have always liked Waterman ink and this is a favorite. It used to be called South Seas Blue, but Waterman changed all their names a few years ago, without changing the actual ink, I believe. I always have a bottle or two of this around, but I don't use it very often.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

This is one of my go-to inks. I love turquoise inks and this one is lovely- well behaved, shades nicely and isn't too light. I usually pick up a bottle of it any time I order other inks. The only downside is the small bottle. I need a BIG bottle of this.

I just got myself a bottle of this ink after reading the review and comments here. I am now addicted. My Sailor 1911 has been filled a number of times with Inspired Blue already and I am loathe to change to another color right now. It's a happy springtime color... :bunny01:

Glad I could influence a purchase!

How's the lubrication with Inspired Blue? I've found I'm a big fan of inks that flow well and help the nib glide across the page. (Emerald of Chivor, say, I find really pleasant to write with; Yama-dori also.)

Great review! This is one of my staples. It is an excellent ink with great lubrication.

I picked up a bottle in my most recent JetPens order, and yeah, this is a really wonderful ink. Color, shading, sheen, lubrication, drying time -- all exceptional. It would be a great ink at any price, but it's also amazingly inexpensive. Truly a gem.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
