Just Got My Tomoe River

I ordered a 100-sheet pad of blank white Tomoe River paper from paperforfountainpens.com. Really fast delivery and a nice personal note from Jay Potter enclosed. Haven't tried the paper yet; want to see first if I can print some lines on it. But I'm really happy with the service from this vender.

I ordered from him too in December. I am so very happy with the paper and his kind service. I highly recommend Tomoe River paper and paperforfountainpens.com

One idea is you can put a lined sheet underneath your paper while you are writing, then you have a guide but you won't have lines on the paper. Tomoe River is so transparent you can use it for tracing too. :)

I have a preference for lines actually on the paper, as opposed to lines on a guide sheet. My printer had no trouble with it, so I'm good to go. I've already written several letters on it. I did learn that J Herbin Lie de The does not play well at all on TR paper; I wrote a letter, and even after leaving it out all night, there were still wet spots.

That said, I do like the paper :D

Just imagine if this beautiful sheet existed in about a 75gsm version. Could just be paper nirvana.

Interesting to hear about the Lie de Thé... I wonder what makes it a problem with specifically that ink?

Probably the type of pigments cause a chemical reaction or something like that.

That's a good question. My comments are two years old, and I'm not sure, but I think I've used LdT on TR from pens other that what I used back then, with no drying problems. I do know that I used Noodler's Blue Eel in a Jinhao 599, and it was still glistening wet after having been left out overnight, but the same ink in a Varsity dries almost immediately. In any case, I don't think it's the paper's fault.

I think sometimes the weather conditions affect too: temperature, humidity, air pressure, etc. That may explain the differences.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
