How is cursive defined where it is required by law? For instance, would teaching of italic be permitted or forbidden in fulfilling the mandate in Tennessee or elsewhere? (Note that several italic programs -- e. g., Getty-Dubay -- identify their subject as italic cursive or cursive italic as soon as any joining is taught. ln schools where people were discussing which handwriting books to use, I've seen fights break out re whether these books were obviously and definitely cursive or just as obviously and definitely NOT oursive.)
