The Yard-o-Led Grand Viceroy, although it's kind of evident it's true silver, I really think it's tacky and the first time I saw it

I thought it was a chinese ebay pen.

Parker Duofold Giant limited, also looks like a Chinese pen.

Pelikan m101N red, materials look really cheap (especially the tort shell). The green version looks good to me though

pelikan-m101n-tortoiseshell-red-uncapped

Some of the materials used on Sailor KoP are quite cheap looking too (of course I really love the black ebonite version)

This thing, Ensemble Acme Bram Stoker's Dracula

gr_14539.jpg

and the Montegrappa's, you know which ones I mean. And most high end Cross.

N.B.: Some of the Visconti's and Mont Blanc's are really cheesy, but usually you just know it has to be expensive, but expensive for the sake of being expensive.

Of course what you show is not a Yard-o-Led Grand Viceroy but the Imperial Dragon as it was identified in winedocs post where you got the picture.

Sad.

Nice catch :P.

Still, same opinion.

Although this one looks much better  (Barley, not the Victorian one)

The Cross Peerless looks awful... The cap is probably the largest in fountain pen history....

fpn_1422746136__at0706-4.png

Also the Aurora Style Resin series looks super cheap....

What's actually sad, is that you missed the price by a digit.

it's actually 28 000 $

Not super-expensive compared to some of the others mentioned in this thread, but the brightly colored Vanishing Points with the black trim look awful to me.  I love VPs, they're my favorite and most used pens, but those colors make them look like cheap plastic.  I don't care about whether or not a pen looks expensive, but I don't like garish ones either.

Do you mean cheap as in cheesy/trashy or cheap as in inexpensive/understated?

Romillo pens definitely look cheap as do Nakayas, but so do some Montegrappas and MBs

I dunno, I just don't like the way some $900 Mont Blancs imitate the look of my $6 Jinhaos...

The Cross line. All pens by Cross look cheap to me. Dunno but I think the design and shape both say ' I am a cheapy '. Well, to me , it looks so. Pens by Cross didn't ever attract me.

When chased rubber turns brown, looks to me like a $2 pen.

Either. Those are two good ways of being and looking cheap. People always disregard the cheapness if they know the cost, but if you ask a stranger to the world of pens, they could easily spot cheap looking, no matter the cost. There is an issue also brought to the table. Some look cheap although material looks costly and you perceive it as such.

Again the Montegrappa Chaos. Beside beeing ugly like hell, it mimics an a cheap c-movie requisit for the villan.

And no , normally i like a good made skull here and there.

Lamy 2000 is not expensive but is more expensive than it looks...

Aurora 88

Rotring 600 (Even with old prices, if the red ring was gone nobody would notice that it is a nice pen.)

Nakayas (although they're really more understated than legitimately cheap.
