Replacement Nib Unit For Classic

Hi all,

From what I have been able to discover online, it appears that TWSBI does not currently sell replacement nib units for the Classic pens. Has anyone managed to find a hidden source?

I bought one with a 1.1 stub nib, and while I quite enjoy using this for 'fun', I actually like the pen more than I thought I would and would like to have a nib more suitable for everyday use (for me that's probably a 'fine'). Unfortunately the 1.1 stub is too broad for my everyday speedy handwriting!

If anyone has any leads or other ideas I'd be most grateful!

The TWSBI Classics uses the Mini Nib Units. You just need to remove the metal collar as well as the plastic section to put on the new nib from the original classic. The 580 nib will fit but is abit bigger.

Thanks, all.

Studiohead, are you suggesting that I take the nib and feed out of a Mini nib unit and put it into the Classic section?

I was looking to buy a nib unit as well, so I'm in the same boat. However, I do have a mini as well. The nib and feed are the same, but housing (the black bit that fits inside the collar and plastic section) is different and does not fit the classic.

But you can remove the nib and feed and they will fit.

Actually, the nib, the feed and the nib holder (the black part holding the nib and feed) are exactly the same between the Diamond Mini and Classic. TWSBI calls this part the feeder holder. The only difference is the Classic has a Metal Collar and a Plastic section while the Diamond Mini has a Integrated Plastic section with a metal ring. As a TWSBI dealer we keep spares as this is the part which is now the most common point of failure due to over tightening. You don't need to take out the nib and feed. (in fact, you would most like bend the fins if you do so. The Nib on the Mini Nib Unit is tighter than the 580)

Fpnibs.com used to offer gold nibs for sale (modified JoWo #5 nibs), but stopped doing so sometime in the past 12 months. They may still be willing to do this as a custom order, though - so it's worth contacting them to ask the question!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
