New "caiso" Bulkfiller Revealed !

Hi Tojusi, Pavoni and Mongrelnomad !

Thanks for your interest, below my answers to your rightfull questions :

As for grounding nibs at site at the London pen show, i'm not sure if this will be possible.

Since only Werner and myself can be there this year, it could be rather hectic, and grounding nibs is precision work.

I don't consider myself to be a real "nibmeister", so it takes me at around one hour to do a decent job.

Anyway, I'll bring my tools with me, we will see if there is time for nib grounding.

As for the the ebonite feeds, on our standard Kingsize we use ebonite feeds which are sourced by Bock.

Given the CAISO ink valve actuating pen goes centrally through the feed, we can't use the flattened Bock feeds for CAISO.

So Conid was forced to design and make a dedicated - cylindrical - CAISO feed.

We already tested and optimized a few prototypes of the CAISO feed in a standard Kingsize, with excellent results.

Prototype testing :

By the middle of next week we will have four "final version" CAISO Bulkfiller prototypes available for intensive writing tests.

Two Belgian "frequent writers" and Bulkfiller adepts will test the CAISO intensively for 3 weeks , as well as Werner and myself;

These testers live close to Conid, so communications - and when deemed necessary modifications on the pen - can be done very quickly.

Nib unit exchange :

Note that the screw in nib-unit on the CAISO is easy exchanged, but the CAISO valve plunger and the return spring come out with the nib unit.

No big deal, but one has to be careful not loosing the spring.

When installing another nib unit one has to install the a valve plunger in the central hole in the feed , install the spring on its seat on the plunger, and screw the nib unit completely back in.

Nothing to be afraid off, rather straight forward.

As for the FPN Limited edition, we will not have any these pens with us, distribution is solely done by FPN.

Hope this answers your questions.

Looking forward seeing you again in London !

Best regards, Francis

Hi Francis,

Really appreciate you responding to our queries in this way. Thank you for being so generous with your time.

I was very interested to read your advice on changing nibs on the CAISO, mindful of the specialist feed. As you know I, like a number of your many loyal Bulkfiller fans, enjoy the flexibility of being able to change/swap nibs on these superb pens. I am really enjoying the VERY flexible vintage nib you kindly set up on my standard Bulkfiller

Given the specialist nature of the CAISO feed, will it be possible to widen the ink channel, in the same way, on this particular feed to increase ink flow and meet the heavy demands of a very flexible nib, such as that on my standard Bulkfiller?

I can see that you are going to be very busy at the London show. Do you think you will be able to demonstrate swapping out nibs on a CAISO, and show those of us buying this pen, how easy it is to install the valve plunger and spring?

Pavoni.

Hi Pavoni,

Widening the ink channel in the ebonite CAISO feed remains surely possible.

I will surely demonstrate the simplicity of a CAISO nib swap during the London pen show;

Really nothing to be afraid off.

Hello Fountain pen friends !

Good news, I've just assembled the first Kingsize CAISO demonstrator manufactured by CONID!

Everything is really perfect, the ink closure system works perfectly when screwing the cap on.

CAISO eliminates the need to manipulate the filling knob ,opening / closing of the ink shut-off valve happens automatically by removing / installing the cap.

So one can't forget to close the fill button before traveling in the high mountains , on the plane - or even leaving the pen accidentally in a hot car - and be faced with ink leakage afterwards.

A limited series FPR ([First Production Run) of 60 numbered CAISO demonstrator pens will be manufactured.

The filling knob and cap top will be made of titanium.

Price - without the nib of your choice - is 862 Euros

Actual additional cost of the nib of your choice F, M or B

Titanium: 63 Euros, 14K gold: 125 Euros 14K Rhodinated 145 Euros, and 35 Euros extra for special grinding.

Note that the prices listed above are for export outside the EU only , so no VAT included!

CONID has already received around 10 reservations, so don't wait too long if you are interested in a certain pen number!

The pen will have its premiere during the WES penshow October 4 in London.

Werner and myself look forward seeing you in London!

Sincerely, Francis

Hello Francis,

Can't wait to get one of these beauties.

Seriously a Kingsize with titanium ends, just like the original Bulkfiller Demonstrator and that ingenious CAISO system.

Unfortunately the name Meisterstück is registered, but I think Tour de Force is still available :-)

Hi Francis,

How does the ordering process work - it's not on Conid website yet? I'm one those who are on the reserved list.

I did send Werner an email today - waiting for a reply - but I think it would be good if you could explain the process to everyone interested.

Hi Tojusi,

Reservation is done by sending an E-mail to Werner.

Note however Werner is actually extremely busy with his 55 people machine building shop.

So it may take a few days before Werner may reply.

But be assured the pen is reserved for you

The CAISO is not yet on the website, while Conid is still making the parts.

It may take a few more weeks before the CAISO will be on the website.

Hi Francis - since the FPR pens can fit an MB #9 nib, are you open to doing the modifications to the feed? I don't think I would trust myself to do it. Well actually, I REALLY would not trust myself. :)

If so, what would bet the charge if I sent you the nib?

Just want to see if that's an option.

Hi zaddick,

Installing a MB139 or MB149 nib in combination with the new designed HR Caiso feed is no problem,I've already done this.

We will always use the dedicated Caiso feed, we can't use any other feed.

No extra installation cost if you send the nib to Conid.

Francis - thank you. I'll give this very serious consideration. I missed out on the first King sized bulk filler, and i am excited about the new system. I did pick up the Streamline demo FPR so this new pen could make a nice companion.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I exchanged emails with him last week - they will send emails out in due course so we will have to wait for now. They are quite busy with everything new they are doing at the moment.

Hi fountain pen friends !

Just received the following message from Conid :

Although a few pre-series CAISO Kingsize Bulkfillers will be presented at the London pen show, the CAISO Bulkfillers will not be available for sale at the show.

The CAISO Kingsize Bulkfiller demonstrator will only become available mid October 2015.

Great video. At first I thought it was a CASIO pen - wondering why they wanted to expand from electronic products to fountain pens. At a closer look, it is a CAISO, not CASIO... :D

I wonder what section they are going to go with. I really love the look of the Titanium section. Although, the Delrin section on my current Bulkfiller is wonderful.

The prototypes at the show sported hard rubber sections...

Too many pens; too little writing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
