Chopin - Diamine Music Set

Manufacturers since 1864, Diamine Inks relocated to this purpose built 'state of the art' factory in Liverpool in 1925, where they successfully carried on using the traditional methods and formulas for ink production. Over the years the company has changed hands and are now located close to the world famous Aintree Race Course

Diamine offers interesting ink gift sets. The idea is nice but I'm not interested in full lines of inks, rather in colors I enjoy. That's why I'm pleased to say Diamine will offer all of their inks also in 30 ml plastic bottles. A friend of mine send me the samples of Music Set inks. I'll review them here.

Chopin is rather grim. I even thought aboue embedding Funeral March here but decided it would be way too much.

Anyway the ink is well behaved and to my surprise I kind of enjoy it.

It looks like an "in-between" ink, not blue, not grey, spot in the middle, at least on my monitor. Sort of like Eclipse, of the same brand (black and purple).

Thanks for these great scans.

I love this ink, it's my favourite of the Music Set inks. It's a little more blue in reality than what I'm seeing via my iPad.

It's a nice ink and even though I don't 'do' greys, this is one I'd consider. Along with the Silver Fox and Graphite.

This seems to be a very nice ink! I've bought the set over a year ago and haven't tried any of those inks

Your wonderful reviews always remind me of the beautiful inks I have and makes me go to my ink cabinet to try them

Looks like some others from this series will make it into daily rotation soon!

Cheers

Michael

I really enjoy these "vintage" looking bluey greys and this has flown under my radar for some reason.

I will investigate further. Thanks vismamitra. Thanks a lot . . . ;)

Hope it's ok to resurrect this thread to add a few observations. I'm slightly suspicious that I have a wonky batch, so if those of you who have it could confirm or rebuke my experiences that would be helpful.

The colour is very unusual and I'm quite fond of it. It appears to my eyes as a dark grey with a tiny hint of blue, but a more noticeable undertone of purple. But here's the strange thing I have found about it - it is a very, very quick drying ink (if I leave the cap off a gusher for more than ten seconds I get hard starts) yet it also has a tendency to feather and bleed on decent paper. It's good on Rhodia, but other papers have exhibited bleed and massive feathering, In my ink record book (Paperblanks) there are 54 entries and the only other inks that have any kind of feathering are Noodler's Forest Green and Noodler's Medway Blue (but neither have particularly bad feathering). In the same book on the same paper, Chopin is playing the page with wet fingers.I haven't seen anyone else mention this as an issue with this ink, which does make me wonder if I got a wonky batch (the other inks seem fine, but have't extensively used all of them yet).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
