Non-Leather Carry Case

Can anyone make a recommendation for an inexpensive case to transport multiple pens (4-12 or so, flexible about this)? I'm thinking some kind of hard-shell material would be best, as I will be throwing (gently placing) the case into my book bag as I move around school, in and out of the car, etc.

 

I'm doing a project with my students this semester to try to improve their atrocious handwriting (not entirely their fault; many of them come from Arabic or Chinese alphabets) and add some novelty to their classes.

I've used eye glass cases with a bit of cushioning material inside to carry 2 or three pens. A couple of them would probably work for you. You or your friends may have a couple lying around the house or go to where ever you purchase your glasses and ask if they have any to spare. It would be an inexpensive solution.

Look up Black Ops cigar cases on eBay, might be what you're looking for even if slightly bulky.

I have an 8 pen wrap that my wife made for me, and I use it to carry my pens all the time.

In a previous thread (https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/254283-a-25-three-pen-case-for-the-overly-protective-pelican-inside/) someone used a Pelican case and padding. I'd like to try it too.

I use both of the Nomadic cases listed below. Love them both, toss them in my backpack and am not real careful about how I handle that. The PE-10 can hold 10 pens in their own individual slot, and you can easily go to 15 if you double up. The only issue is there is not a flap over the top so a pen can slide out. Hasn't happened to me too many times. The PE-06 zips, but doesn't hold as many pens and is not real long, so tall pens can rub up against other tall pens.

 

Both are lightly padded.

Thank you all for your excellent suggestions. I bought a Black Ops cigar case (recommended by "wastelanded") because I want to err on the side of caution regarding the punishment my pen case will possibly endure inside a book bag. Bulk is not really an issue, but getting knocked around is. I also like the wrap idea for non-warfare situations. I have a tailor's sewing machine (a 1916 Singer treadle) that is strong enough to go through multiple layers of padding or other reinforcement and slow enough for precision work, so I've been inspired to copy one of the wrap styles and add a flap (thank you, bsenn) for security. If I come up with something worth sharing, I'll do so!

Black Ops case came today. The orange seal around the perimeter was dangling out of its channel (unglued?) and one of the clasps had fallen off. Needless to say, not impressed.

 

Tasmith, the Brasstown looks like good quality, but at the moment I'm searching for a hard-shell case that will get knocked around in a book bag. I'll refer to it, though, in the future as "inspiration" for a wrap that I make myself. Thanks!

The clasps do tend to fall off the Black Ops - it is easy to put it back on; just half close the lid and press the clasp straight down parallel to the edge of the lid (same angle it would be sitting in when locked). I have to do that on my from time to time - otherwise it works really great for protecting my pens
