If they're selling them please buy one for me!

Phillip of TWSBI will be dropping buy before the main show. I'm too small to tackle him and shake him down for pens, so I'll try begging for early sales.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I didn't see Philip, I was quite sad. So, no update.

Check this out http://www.peneconomics.com/blog/2015/2/16/brand-analysis-twsbi it is a pretty cool write up of the TWSBI brand and he also has some info on the Eco. "Now let’s look at where Twsbi’s strategy is leading them. If everything goes to plan, Twsbi will begin selling the new Eco in April this year. The Eco is another piston-fill demonstrator but will be priced at less than $30: perhaps the most aggressive move in their company’s history. It has been in development for more than two years and I understand that the build quality has been one of the main concerns. If they can produce a reliable, high-quality pen at that price, it is going to have a huge effect on the entry level of the market." I am not exactly sure where he is getting that month from but hopefully he is right!

Also, anyone know if this pen will follow suit with other TWSBI's in terms of being dissembled

the eco can only be disassembled from the piston and pull out the nib and feed... nothing more nothing less... then all your left with the section integrated to the barrel

Good enough for me! As long as I can get into the barrel and clean some stuff up / grease up the piston, I am good.

Understandable at the price, but still retaining the ability to completely disassemble the pen. I'm curious what else had to be sacrificed. Will they return to plastics that crack more easily? Will we lose the rubber o-rings that prevent cap overtightening and moisture loss? It will be interesting to see.

From the pictures the pen looks like is mostly plastic and clear. Very little metal at all. Here is a picture for all of those who haven't seen and to see some detail with the pen.

I am also super exicted for that clear section as well. Much prefer the look of this over a colored section on a pen like this

I have not decided if I like the cap yet. I still want one. Hopefully there will be a clear cap. It'd look good with DBS.

The cap doesn't bother me a whole lot, but the piston knob could be better looking. I would have rather they opted for one more similar to those found on the 580. But I am definitely not complaining about this pen, I cannot wait

I agree - figured it'd look like a 580. Why, I'm not sure. I just love my 580! Assuming there are no issues, it'd be tough to beat for $25-30.

I really like the looks of this pen. Hoping the nibs will still be JoWo. Have no reason to think they won't but in order to get to that price point....

Been waiting on this and the Vac mini... Soon, hopefully, but no news yet. I'm assuming that we'll see announcements as soon as they're actually shipping.

Have we heard whether these will have the smaller nibs (like the Mini/Classic) or the same ones that are on the 580s?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
