Conklin Pens

I found my "grail" pen by accident several months ago when I got a Pelikan M600. I had several M200/M205s and appreciate the quality, plus they are all reliable every time! However, I ran across a very good price for a Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler and I couldn't resist. It holds a ton of ink, is easy to get a complete fill, and the F nib is extremely smooth after a little tweaking. There is something about implementing a 1900's pen design using current materials that appeals to me. Next thing I know two more Conklins (Old style Endura prototype and current Endura) followed me home in Christmas sales. My M600 is still top of the food chain for me, but the Conklins are in regular rotation now.

Any Conklin love here??

Norm

Yep, Conklin's both vintage and modern have a habit of getting under my skin. I'm not really sure what it is about them though. I always seem to have at least one inked, but the modern Mark Twain is a lovely pen.

Never did before, but ever since I got a Nozak, it has been inked and in regular use.

Tell us more about the Endura prototype. I have a number of vintage Enduras which I dearly love and would like to know more about yours.

I picked up one of these:

from the Yafa Outlet Store (http://www.yafaoutlet.com/prototypes.html?pen_mode=6). They were on sale before Christmas for less than the current price. The clip says "2010 05", so I'm assuming that it was made in May 2010. Doesn't really matter to me. I like the way the pen feels and writes!

I picked up one of these:

from Fountain Pen Hospital ages ago and hand on heart it's my smoothest writing nib and easy one of my favourite pens. Great size, balance and weight.

Coincidentally, I've just loaded it up with a new ink, Octopus Schwarz and will be scribbling with it all day.

Much love for Conklins here

I have the green marbeled Endura and its a nice pen. It's quite light, so if you like heavier pens it may not be to your taste and the converter is a screw in type. It's a large pen and a smooth writer, but not quite as good a nib as the Mark Twain.

That's been my experience, too. Alongside Mabie Todd, Conklin are probably my favourite vintage flex for everyday use.

I dig them! I have an Endura and a Crescent. I also got my dad the new Duragraph for the holidays. All pens write very nicely and smoothly out of the box. I quite enjoy them.

Unfortunately the first Conklin that I picked up was the mosaic stylograph. Unlike the Endura or the Mark Twain (which i found out later) it weighs a lot at 37 grams and seriously not my cup of tea...

Maybe I should look at vintage Conklin

The orange one looks nice. But the description on the link makes it sound as if these may be too big for me. :(

They're attractive. I like the Yellowstone the best, but the orange one has some appeal too.

However, are they the same writing experience as the Duragraph? If they have the same nib and feed, I'm not sure if I'll bother.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
