Recently I reviewed the full (short) line of Super 5 inks. They're something new (pigmented, waterproof, lightfast) but they're produced by well known company Rohrer & Klingner. Does it mean there's no place for new ink producers? Well...

I believe many of you will be thrilled to know there's new ink maker on the market.Octopus Concept GmbH.

The company has web shop selling printer ink and toner, It seems one of their chemists thought he'd enjoy creating fountain pen inks too.

The inks are produced in ten colors and can be purchased in Pelikan style no-nonsense 30 ml bottles , 40 ml bottles and huge 250 ml bottles. The colors are:

  1. Burgunder
  2. Flieder
  3. Karamell
  4. Karibik
  5. Konigsblau
  6. Pinie
  7. Purpur
  8. Rot
  9. Schwarz
  10. Tiefgrun

What caught my attention was good price per ml and interesting and intense shading. Besides I enjoy novelties. I just couldn't resist myself. Hopefully I'm in good, lenient companionship here. Anyway I'll review the full line. Actually I've already done it but there's no haste, is there?

Let's take a look at Konigsblau - decent but not really exciting blue. The color is generic and - while pleasant - rather boring at the same time.

Agree with you Vis.. I am no crazy about Blues, and this one is not particularly interesting... :P

And here I was ready for an octopus-ink based ink. Pfbth.

 

I am a fan of blues...particularly blue-blacks...but for the 'King's Blue' they sure picked a dull color.

 

I really like your choice for the bottle shot on the snowy log. Nice work!

To be honest I have impression that most companies choose dull color for their Royal Blue. As I'm not tht much into blues I'm able to present four konigsblaus :)

 

 

Yep.. that's why I do not own not even ONE Royal Blue...

Another great review - though I won't rush out to buy this one.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Which is what a Royal Blue should be.

It is a school ink, menat to be used for schoolwork.

Undestatement is what is required, here, together with reasonably good performance in every school pen, eraseability, washability and maintenance free.

I have not tested it, but it looks like a good alternative to the Pelikan 4001.

Don't take life too seriously

Nobody makes it out alive anyway

Well, it's a six year old thread....

That being said, the ink DOES have a plus in that it's not as boring as Lamy Blue. In addition, it appears to have what some people refer to as "halo-ing" -- that sort of dark edge crispness to the line. Some of my favorite inks on the planet do that, not the least of which being vintage Skrip Peacock.

Well, it's a six year old thread....

 

Well, the main difference between socials and forums is that the information in forums is still available and useful even after years.

This ink is still in production, and somebody could be interested in it.

 

As I am already an industrial user of Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue as my (and my colleagues) daily workhorse, I have no interest in adding another erasable Royal Blue, but it is worth considering if somebody wants a royal blue with "a touch" over Lamy and Pelikan (and all the many clones of the two).

Don't take life too seriously

Nobody makes it out alive anyway

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
