Known Brands: Other Brands - Europe

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Fountain Pen Network,

As a side effect of the recent re-shuffle of forums (December 2014), which has more or less been concluded now, a list of all pen brands worldwide, as far as any information could be found on these brands, was compiled. Please find below the list of pens, which are discussed specifically in this forum.

For a complete list of all known pen brands, check here:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/281024-pen-brands-worldwide-by-country/

The idea is to try and keep this list up to date, and if any of you notice that pen brands are missing, please add those to this list, preferably with a reference; I will add them only with pleasure.

Similarly, please let me know if any typos were made, I'll gladly correct those too, and also any main brands for the brands listed. In case of incorrect attributions, please let me know too, preferably with a reference too: the idea is to, possibly, create an entry per brand with some sort of description if at all possible (time-wise), or if you yourself would like to do so - by all means post it, and notify me.

Thank you all very much in advance , and enjoy!

Warm regards, Wim

Hoi wim,

Ik heb sinds een paar dagen een oude pen, waarschijnlijk rond 1930.
Is een Ocean-A pen. Staat op Made in Germany.
Zie de foto s bij mijn berichtje hier op het FPN.

Mis de naam wel in de lijst.

A small detail, but Equinoxe (France) seem more often to go by Equinoxe Cadeaux, rather than Equinoxe - Paris.

I have one FP, received as a gift, and they are darned hard to learn about. If the box were not branded I'd be totally stuck because there are no identifiers on the pen itself.

It looks more like they buy them in from a supplier rather than make their own.

See: equinoxecadeaux.com/ as reference.

Belgium

Les plumes de l'ange

On http://lesstylosbelges.skynetblogs.be/ a number of additional Belgian brands are listed

Belgor

Bermond (not t)

Excelsior

Grafex

Labor

Swallow

Virginal

It is not always clear how genuine these are or whether they were produced under license or re-branded. For instance a large number, but not all Le Tigre pens seem Conway Stewart clones.

It would be interesting to know for all brands which are still "alive". For Belgium I am only aware of Conid and Les plumes de l'ange being still in business, but feel free to correct.

Ik ontken het grote belang van de computer niet, maar vind het van een stuitende domheid om iets wat al millennia zijn belang heeft bewezen daarom overboord te willen gooien (Ann De Craemer)

Hello Wimg:

as for polish pens I'd remove "Majewski" from the list. They only made pencils, no pens at all. Also "Stanislaw" seems a mistake here.As addendum I'd put "Silesia" nibs but also pens maker.

Also from russian pens: "ADTOPYUKA", which should rather be "avtorutschka" means "fountain pen" in russian and, as such, is not a brand name.

Hi, El Gordo,

As you say some of the Belgian pens were partially/ manufactured abroad. In addition to Le Tigre I have a Belmond that is mainly Unique (it has a Belmond nib) and have seen one which has a Belmond clip as well, while many Belgor's were manufactured by Langs.

While in Bremen I purchased a Parix pen. Does anyone have knowledge of this brand? It is a typical 1930's germanic pen with a high cap screw with three interlocking rings inscribed in white, curvy clip with Parix on it and D.R.G.M stamped on the cap, which I assume is the manufacturer, ink view and a cork sealed screw filling system and finally 74OB stamped on the filler unit screw down. the nib is just marked PARIX 14Kt.

I found this set at a fleamarket today, it´s a george jensen (danish silversmith) FP and pencil, the Fp is rather large (same lenght as a pelikan m 1000) and has a substancial feel to it.

Unfortunately it´s a C/C filler (i prefer piston fillers) otherwise it´s a nice well built pen with a big smooth 18K nib.

For Czech Republik, I'd add Flaro.

I have recently bought a Flaro Titan on Ebay, which is a nice Montblanc 149 inspired big pen, very close to the early 60 MB model but with flat reduced ends. It retains a big semi-flex 40 mm nib, i. e. as large as the #9 MB nib but gold plated steel alloy only. All in all a rather good pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
