Like most people I like novelties, especially when it comes to inks and fountain pens. You know - I've been looking for grail ink for three years and there's always chance it's still ahead of me  :)

When I came across Super5 inks mention on Goulet's site, I thought the bottles looked cool and - in a way - familiar.

super5-ink-group-720x340.jpg

The names of cities were cool as well. Colors looked really nice on swabs. My dear friend google helped me to investigate.

Super5 inks are sold by Format-Darmstadt GmbH on papierlabor.desite. The company offers also calligraphy pen and converter and some papers.

The inks are made by my second favourite ink maker - Rohrer & KlingnerCheck their "regular" inks here.

That's good news. Really. They know what they're doing and you can expect good quality from R&K. The quality they indeed deliver.

So why Super5 inks are much more expensive than R&K inks. First of all - they're pigmented (I believe), then there need to be some margin for the distributor. At 20 euros / bottle yhey're not cheap. However unlike Caran d'Ache or Iroshizuku they offer not only more than satisfying quality, good flow and good lubrication but also added value of waterproofness and lightfastness.

Last week I was given the whole set. I'm going to review it and post comparison of the full line. Soon.

The colors are really great. Honestly. They're also extremely waterproof.

Yesterday I've reviewed Delhi, check it out if you like oranges.

Today let's take a look at Australia, nice red-brown ink.

Another great review, vis! This colour does not appeal to me, but the bubbles in the bottle look so beautiful!

Also I wonder what your number 1 favourite ink brand is...

:) Bad news is after I'm finished with Super 5, I'll review one more brand that's not well known. Actually I believe there's no mention about it on FPN. Skip my reviews if you want your home P&L to remain safe :P

Vis, when I saw the splash, I thought, Oh, Cyber6 will like this.... I guessed well.  Thanks for the great review and I'm looking forward to the next great review.

OOOH.  Love this color!  Thanks for the review.

And not thanks.  :glare:

I've already seriously blown the discretionary budget -- and at this time of year :excl: -- with KWZI inks (and a vintage bottle of Quink Permanent Black Microfilm ink); and then you go and make me start a whole *new* category (well, sub-category, anyway) in the "inks to buy" spreadsheet?  Swell.  Just.  Swell....  :wallbash:

Thanks for the review and the colour is quite nice.. I understand this is a side issue, but it's really annoying they named a city as "Australia", a country. Sydney is a city, Melbourne is a city, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart are all cities in the country of Australia.

Don't take it the wrong way... one of the inks is called "ATLANTIC".. and we all know they are not referring to a city.   ;)

I didn't take it "the wrong way", was just expressing annoyance.

I wondered about that too and suspect the manufacturer was trying to capture Ayers Rock in this ink....I guess if they called it "Alice Springs" it may elicit a "huh?" from some ink buyers ;-)

Glad to know I'm not the only one with an "inks to buy" spreadsheet! These Super5 inks introduce a new world of classy waterproof inks. My wife is not too pleased...

I think I like this colour because it somehow reminds me of Ayres Rock (where I've not yet been).

In any case, if it writes and behaves like Frankfurt (a muddy black), I'll but it and love the $%!" out of it.

That was Ayers not Ayres, and since the mid-eighties has become better known by its Pitjantjatjara name of Uluru; just so you do not lose your way :). Well worth a visit and please respect the locals by not climbing it. Oh, and please do not swim in rivers or waterholes marked as having crocodiles. It is bad business for repeat visits.
