Magic Cashmere - The Never To Be Repeated Mixing Mixup - Susemai - Blackstone

So, as some of you know, the wonderful team at JustWrite.com was "con"vinced to try to make a series of modern ink powders. The goal was to have vibrant inks that could be shipped to you in regular first class envelope and you would put the ink into a bottle with water and mix.

The JustWrite Team sent me a series of samples, and I recruited others to assist me in testing these great inks. At first no one was told who made these inks so the Pre-Name was SuSeMai - SUper SEcret MAker of Inks. The alpha tests of 13 inks resulted in 4 inks moving forward to beta testingl - generally, these are the inks from the "Cashmere" line.

In beta testing (and I will post some pictures at some point to show off the excitement), we discovered that Green Cashmere when it was in the great melting pot, had instead SEPERATED. (I'm sure there was some politics involved, some chemicals went on strike because certain dyes were involved). As a result, each sachet had a slightly different collection of chemicals and each sachet has different behaviors. So, we testers changed the name from "green" to "Magic" since determining what color would result could be magic.

Even cooler (and more magical), is that each batch of magic seems to show different colors at different concentrations (dye / water) AND at lower concentrations, the ink changes colors.

So, for your enjoyment, here is a color change sample. (Just turn off the volume so you don't have to listen to the directors comments).

Cool, and a tiny bit weird too! But what I really want to know is; when will red cashmere with that beautiful gold sheen be available to buy for us lesser mortals?

You know, I never had any issues with Green/Magic Cashmere - in either Alpha OR Beta testing. Just a wonderful green. The Green I had issues with was Green Diamond. I have my sachet of Green/Magic mixed up to fill a 62.5 ml Pelikan 4001 bottle - so about 6.5% (+/-)

It is to bad they couldn't get the mix to behave better for more people as the color is great. It gives me a nice change from a steady diet of Diamine Sherwood Green too.

Add it to any blue ink - I keep adding little drops to my blues. WOW

I should clarify that it didn't do anything spectacular. It'd be safe to use, just came out ugly.

So, the Magic Cashmere is doing what the General of the Armies is supposed to do?

Not that I am complaining about the GotA, it is a well behaved ink on the work-supplied stationery. Review to come. Promise. Treally rully...

PS, how come my Magic Cashmere never did the magic? Maybe it only does on the wrong side of the equator? Like water going down the toilet the wrong way.

Nope, each batch was just different. Also the magic seems to happen at 4% or less concentration.

  • 2 months later...

A special benefactor just sent me a shot of Magic Cashmere. I diluted it, and here are the results. On vellum, then on Rhodia paper. Is lavender gray a normal outcome?

That is the first time I have ever heard those words in my life. Wow. Maybe now I can handle F-stops and aperture combinations... ;)

Interestingly, my Green Cashmere powder mix was actually green, just like the original.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
