Just picked up one of the two bottles of J. Herbin Stormy Grey the Pen Boutique www.penboutique.com located in Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, MD had in stock. They had just restocked the two bottles shortly before I arrived. Lucky timing on my part!

Hello, Todd :)

Wow, lucky you! Enjoy your ink ;)

Thanks! I had called them this morning and they said they didn't have any in stock. I decided to go there anyway to purchase some other items.

Called Bertram's Inkwell too, www.bertramsinkwell.com and he said they're expecting their shipment of Stormy Grey to arrive on Monday. Maybe he got his in early too.

I've found that the amount of gold varies enormously from fill to fill. Also that after several fills the ratio of gold to grey increases exponentially. My first fill of Stormy grey (in an Ahab) was a blackish grey. But my last couple of fills (into a Pelikan 600 medium) have held a lot of gold. When the bottle is completely full it's hard to mix the gold and grey, but when the bottle is a bit empty, shaking works better.

Looking forward to getting my ink. Ordered on Amazon from Hyatt's, where I ordered before... will be here Monday, was hoping would take less than a week to get from Buffalo to NJ. Ugh, USPS.

Maybe a magnetic stirrer would help:

LOL--great gadget! I'm loving this ink more and more. It has replaced the R and K alt-grungold in my white tortoise. Kind of the same faded gold feeling in the ink, but so much more lubricated!

After using this ink for a while I noticed that while it writes grey, if you hold it up to a light it shows red.

I have the Rouge Hematite, which I adore. I asked for the Ocean Blue and Stormy Grey for Christmas - and got the Ocean Blue. I then immediately hopped onto Amazon and purchased the Stormy Grey before they ran out.

I cannot wait to get it! It'll be here Saturday.

My bride got me my first bottle of Stormy Grey for Christmas. Now I need a pen to run dry so I can pan for gold...

I ink, therefore I am.

Hahaha. I almost emptied out one of my pens, but then I got an email saying that a pen I ordered (which was backordered) was on its way. So now I'm waiting to use the new ink and new pen at the same time.

  • 3 months later...

I may be the only person underwhelmed with Stormy Grey...

I really love inks that sheen. I loved the looks of the first generation Rouge Hematite; it actually looked like traditional sheen, just exaggerated. Even when they removed some if it, it was still pretty nice. However, the gold flecks that are in the 1670 inks now make them look like glittery gel rollerball pens. I'm really not a fan.

I can't see myself spending (any more) money on the current line of 1670 inks, but I'll keep my bottle of Stormy Grey and use it occasionally. Just wish I could've gotten a bottle of the original Rouge Hematite.

So many inks, so little time...

Pretty!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thanks. When viewing straight on it looks grey, only when the light catches it at a certain angle do you see the sparkles. I like that as it's not too showy. My wife was looking at her name and when the sun caught the the envelope at the correct angle, she's called out "Wow, it sparkles! I love it!" A nice surprise.

Oh lovely. I will go to my favorite art supply store in Monday to buy Stormy Gray and Bleu Ocean. I already have the Rouge Hematite.

my ink supplier kindly wrote me a note on my delivery line for the 1670 inks

"SHAKE IT TO WAKE IT"

They are gorgeous inks, but not really a workplace ink as people will want to steal your pens more than normal.

Just bought a bottle of Rouge Hematite. Haven't used it yet but my wife's birthday is coming up so I think I know what ink I'll be using on her card.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
