Christof here has managed to collect all of the Pelikano's (and I'm quite jealous). A really wonderful collection. Check it out here; https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/220855-whats-up-at-christofs/?p=3163210

I have quite a few Pelikanos and Juniors and one vintage 120. All of them write WAAAY above their price point, and I have my eye on a Twist now!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Collecting cheap Pelikan student pens is a very extensive work of several hundred pens when you include all youth fountain pens. But even the adults enjoy writing with these pens.

I also collect these cheap fountain pen from Pelikan. A small selection here. More images should be made only once.

I hav a Grand Prix, a P10, and an unknown one picked up in Libya in 1988 from a government stationery store. It has the same feed as the Grand Prix, but with a folded nib. I also have a post Pelikan Geha with the almost the same feed and a folded nib. The P10 is the only surviving one from my first pens bought in 1987. It is an amazing little pen.

Here, the 120 is often referred to as fountain pen for students. But he was also used by adults and used at work in offices.

In Italy pelican made the 120 as Deskpen so that the staff could not take it home with.

I really like that desk 120, idur53 (Otto?). Also your other collection pics. I considered the 120 part of a general "low end/student category", but you make a good point that there are strictly school pens vs low end pens.

The first cheapest fountain pen for youth made Pelikan with the Happy Pen in 1973. He corresponded with the technique of the Pelikano, but should vary with the trendy look of the school fillers. Pictures of Happy Pen I showed a little before.

To 1980 there were more cheap models. Until 1986 there was no further pens.

The P10 Twist began a new series of youth fillers in 1986.

The pens were made of single-color injection molded parts in the beginning. By the time the first simple forms were printed, and later multicolored motifs.

There were also pens made with a metal clip that should enhance the fountain pen.

1994/95 made Pelican the M22 Nature as a piston pen. It was produces only 5 months. All previous and later were cartridge pens.

post-110158-0-45939400-1419873733_thumb.jpg

With later models varied the shape of the clip. Annually published at least 4 different new designs.

The model P23 Gallery of fountain pen was thicker. It corresponds to the model produced today.

My collection includes over 160 variates this model series and can be reproduced only as an example here.

There are also other interesting cheap fountain pen models. These were probably about the end of the 80s made after Pelikan had taken over the company Laurin in Waiblingen. These pens can be recognized because the barrel was produced by injection molding machines, like the old Laurin pen. Also the nib unit complies with these ancient pens.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have purchased some more pelikanos the pictures of which I will be sharing with friends in a few days. Also , I have equipped all of my Pelikanos with Pelikan converters. I don't like using ink cartridges in any of my pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
