End Of Year Pif By Cryptos

Hi fellow forumites!

Here is an ideal pen for someone new to fountain pens. I would prefer it to go to someone new so please let your conscience be your guide on this.

So, what do you have to do? NOTHING! :yikes: Just PM me and tell me you want it.

I will select a recipient Wed 17th December (midnight GMT, that's midday (on the 18th) here in NZ, and about 7pm in New York, 2pm in San Francisco).

GOOD LUCK! :D :D :D

  • This pen comes from Nordic Pen Imports in Sweden. When it arrived it was accompanied by 3 nib units (fine, medium and broad) and a converter. The nibs screw in - dead easy!
  • The pen is made of acrylic in a kind of tortoiseshell pattern and is translucent to strong light.
  • Although there is a converter this pen can be used as an eye-dropper. All it would need is a little silicone grease on the section threads and away you go! Would take a lot of ink I guess.

The converter and nib units are German made Schmidt products. I fitted the fine nib, inked it with Diamine Imperial Purple and can report that it writes very smoothly indeed. I have not tried the other nibs beyond a very quick dip test on the broad (also majorly smooth!).

The pen is little over 5 1/4 inches long (about 13.5cm) with the cap screwed on.

PLEASE NOTE: I WILL SHIP FOR FREE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD BUT IT WILL BE ON THE CHEAPEST TICKET (if the winner wants insurance then they will have to contribute to that).

Additional note: Sorry about the dusty and slightly out of focus photos. Decades of practice has not improved my skills with a camera I'm afraid.

Lovely pen.

Bless your soul for offering such a beauty, and I'm sure whoever gets it will be poisoned even further! :D

A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Lovely looking pen for someone, who'd love to get their feet wet with acrylics, or mix'n'match nibs.

Thank you for your generosity.

+1 to what Amberjack said.

With nearly 5000 posts I can't even pretend to be a newbie. But I'm sure it will find a good home. That is very generous of you to do, Cryptos (I just have to say that I tried a couple of weeks ago to respond to something you posted on another thread but for some reason the upload didn't go through -- the short version is that I've found a lot of your posts to be quite enlightening because you actually seem to be concerned with the "why" of things and not just the "what" or "how".

Well, that's me totally baffled. Could you be a little more specific? Most of the time, due to my extraordinary lack of knowledge or any real intelligence, I find it easier to assume that if I think of something then surely it must have been already thought of by lots of other people.

And although I enjoy a robust and spirited debate I am actually acutely conflict averse.

Don't remember the thread offhand, but you said something (in answer to someone else) about "My two cents' worth" and I tried to respond that IMO your opinions are worth way more than that (particularly in regards to whatever the topic in question was). It was a few weeks ago, and I was having so much trouble with the upload just hanging that I copied and pasted your post and my response to it into an iPages file and stuck it on the screen. It may have had to do with buying pens on a certain auction site....

Hi Cryptos, I don't wish to enter into the contest (not a beginner!) but I'm curious about your pen, what is it?

It's a very generous PiF, and those screw in nib units make it very versatile... in addition to beautiful.

Good luck to the winner!

As stated in the first post, it comes from Nordic Pen Imports. I believe that the the barrel, section, caps and clips were commissioned by Niklas (the owner) and appear to be made of a kind of acrylic. I've never seen any other acrylic pens so I don't have anything with which to compare. Nib units and converter are Schmidt, so I guess those are sourced in Germany.

Ah, looks like Niklas is selling off his remaining stock in THIS THREAD

Hope that makes sense.

I think it's a very nice pen. It's just not getting used at all in my rotation.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
