I've had a number of Kaweco Sports over the years including the AL and now the Carbon. They're cool pens. Not much variation between the pens except the weight between the metal and plastic versions. They're solid little pens, write well, are great pants pocket or polo shirt pocket pens. Short, but when posted have a length that's comfortable to write with. If it's not going in a shirt pocket I carry the Carbon (black) in one of the Kaweco pen cases to protect the finish.

The Sport Luxe is a bit of a strange one. If it didn't have the clip, you could mistake it for a vintage piston filler model.

The body uses a similar kind of ABS to the old models and the black Pelikans use, so it feels a lot sturdier.

Other than that, the nibs are similar to all the other modern sports. I wouldn't go chasing one for the sake of getting one - I would rather get an Art Sport at a similar price, unless you like the all black pens.

It's that upgraded material and vintage look that drew me to it. I own a Sport Classic and enjoy it, but after buying a Dia 2 and seeing the high quality of the fit and finish on that, I'm thinking that the same level of quality upgrade in the diminutive sport would be pretty nice. I like the look of the Art Sports but find the black to be more appealing.

Then you could become a vintage German pen collector. Any colour, as long as it's black.

I would rather look for one of the vintage piston fill models than go out of my way for a Luxe Sport, but that's just my .02 worth.

Hi Anabis,

The Kaweco Luxe Sport is a wonderful pen en good material. Due to the brass clip and ring in the body it weighs a bit more than for example the classic or art.

Nibs are the same as the other Sport pens, feed as the AL, ART, AC

These are discontinued and most likely, the stock found at retailers at this time will be all that is available. (unless you'd like to get a used one of course)

Thanks for this info! If they are discontinued it may sway me to pick one up while I can.

All kaweco pens use the absolute same nib made by Bock.

The only diffrence is the looking and the price. I would not really consider to buy one.

I'm a fan of the Kaweco nib/feed, so that's no issue for me. They are my favorite steel nibs out of the box. The Elite is the only one in the line that uses a different unit - a #6 steel nib.

What I like about the higher end Kawecos is that their fit and finish is impeccable; it is a level of detail and quality that is not even seen on more expensive pens from other companies.

This actually goes for many pen-brands.

Same basic nib and feed, different model and material... and price.

I would recommend you get a vintage Sport from the 50's. It will be the same price or cheaper, be a piston filler, and have a lively 14k nib. I also fell in love with the Sport Luxe, but it's just too much money for what you get.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
