Iroshizuku Tsuyu-Kusa

This is one of the lesser-known (maybe) Iroshizuku inks. It's not as famous as Asa-gao or Kon-peki, but it's a decent blue. Maybe not special enough to be noticed.

Splash

Sheen expected.

Close-Up
Shading: quite nice.

Drop on wet paper towel
Interesting that it has a pink component in it.

Comparison
I'm too lazy to clean up pens and fill them up for comparisons, so these lines and "smudges" are made with a... toothpick.

The scanner makes them look less green. In fact Souten is noticeably greener that Tsuyu-kusa in comparison. Diamine Mediterranean Blue is greener than Souten, and R&K Blu Mare is even greener (more like turquoise).

Verdict

Dry time is not long. Water resistance is not good. It's a pleasing colour, but the sheen is not prominent in normal writing. I quite like it, but it's not special enough for my love. I like Souten more.

Samples are written with a Pilot VP F nib on Rhodia Pad.

This is a beautiful blue! Thank you for sharing.

For some reason I'm not getting the images -- I'm getting boxes with question marks in blue squares....

Nice review! I like all my current inks (ok, not Violette Pensée) but if I just had to choose one, this would win, over Asa Gao, Ajisai, Kon Peki, the lot... My true blue.

I can see them though... Try right-clicking them and open in a new tab?

Well, tonight they've come through all on their own....

That is a nice blue. I was underwhelmed by Asa-Gao when I tried a sample of it. This, one though, might go on the short list the next time I order ink. But between the KWZI group buy (plus having been in a store Tuesday that carried Sheaffer inks, so I treated myself to a bottle of Scrip Purple -- just because...) I may have to limit expenditures for a bit....

A cheerful blue, while being elegant.

Worth trying IMO.

Writing with Tsuyu-kusa always puts me in a good mood: I call it Sunshine In a Bottle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
